Nikon 180-400mm f/4E TC 1.4 lens profile not identified when photo taken with D5 and teleconverter engaged

I am using the new Nikon 180-400mm f/4E TC 1.4 lens. Adobe just released a lens profile for it in the latest version of Lightroom Classic CC. Sometimes the lens is correctly identified by Lightroom, and other times it is not.

This lens has two profiles. One profile is for 180-400mm when the teleconverter is not engaged. This profile works fine and is correctly identified by Lightroom for photos taken with both my Nikon D5 and D850 SLR cameras.

The second profile is when the teleconverter is engaged. When I take a photo with my D850 camera and the teleconverter engaged, Lightroom reports metadata of "250.0-550.0mm f/5.6" and correctly matches a lens profile.

When I use the same lens on my D5 camera, Lightroom reports metadata of "250.0-560.0mm f/5.6". Lightroom is unable to match a lens profile. Please note the metadata difference between the two cameras, which should be the same.

I believe this is a bug in Lightroom and would like to submit sample images to show the issue.

Select the correct lens profile, then choose 'Save New Lens Profile Defaults' in the Setup pop-up menu.

The EXIF lens name is one of the keys used for automatic profile matching. In this case, the EXIF lens name is written to the raw file by the camera body/lens combination. This lens was profiled at Adobe on a D4 which reported the same EXIF name as your D850, hence why the profile expects "250.0-550.0mm f/5.6". Fortunately we can fix this by adding an alternate lens name tag to the profile.

Please post a link to a few sample raw images and I will verify the behavior and submit a fix for a future release. In the meantime, Johan's suggested workaround will provide the hint required by the profile matching logic.

Regards,

- Chris

Thanks Chris,

Here is a link to sample images from both my D850 and D5. I provided one each with the teleconverter off and on. The issue is when the teleconverter is on for the D5.

Also, I can confirm that the D850 behaves the same way as a D500 and D810 with this lens. I am not certain why one camera would report 550mm and another 560mm with the teleconverter engaged.
