I would like to see the Lens Flare filter completely overhauled and replaced. The current filter looked cool 15 years ago, but today it just looks cheap/fake. There are 3rd party plugins that can do this (like Knoll Light Factory for AE), but it would be nice if Adobe improved their own filter.-----What I would like considered in new lens flare filter:* Real-time Preview (w/GPU acceleration?).* Can be used as a Smart Filter.* An interface that makes it simple to quickly add a preset flare and change intensity/position. Advanced Options for total control.* Customizable Lens Flare elements.* Texture/image-based Lens Flare elements (not only synthetic shapes).* Use a channel as an occlusion-map.* Chromatic aberration.* Lens Texture (dust, scratches, etc).* Option for Image-based Lens Flares – the brightest parts of the image (or a channel) automatically turn into a flare.* Flare source can be placed outside the canvas.* It should work in 3D-space in After Effects (not only Photoshop).* Good presets based on flares from real optics.* The ability to load/save presets (users will create amazing flares and share them!). Image-based lens elements used are embedded.

I like this Idea and hope Adobe will improve this filter soon. Smoke/Flame have really nice lens flare effects.

In Filter/Render/Lens Flare, I would love to have it set up so you can zoom in on your image so you can properly place your lens flare exactly where I want it. Right now its so hard and you have to trial and error it like 3-5 times because its so small and hard to see. Thanks and look forward to seeing the update.

The lens flare filter's been around since about v5.5, but it's only changed slightly, adding two additional flare styles. Meanwhile 3rd party vendors used to provide access to different kinds of flares, but most had lacking interfaces.  Now there's very few, and they're prohibitively expensive, only provide static flares or only work with Mac.

Red Knoll use to produce Light Factory, it was great but very expensive.  BrainFeverMedia produces LensFlare Studio, which is great but only works with Mac.

BrainFever also produces several amazing iOS apps, including LensFlare, LensFX, LensLight, AlienSky and others which I regularly use to enhance my projects, but it's a long trip from PC to iOS and back.  Static library flares don't really achieve the look I want either.

It's time Photoshop got serious about the Lens Flare filter. The filter dialog is tiny and offers no ability to accurately place the filter where needed, plus the three basic flares are long sense overdue for overhaul. I noted that others have commented similarly, as far back as 7 years ago, but nothing's changed.
