New Camera Raw 8.4 defaults don't get saved for Leica S files

I'm using Camera Raw 8.4 with Photoshop CS6 on 64-bit Windows 8.1, if I change the defaults for Leica S files in Camera Raw (for example camera profile gets changed to Embedded) and then restart Photoshop, the defaults are reset to the factory defaults, for example camera profile is again Adobe Standard.

This doesn't happen for files from other cameras, for example saving defaults for Pentax Q DNG files works fine.

Hi Christian,

Can you please list the steps you're using to save your custom Leica S defaults?

For example, are you doing

(1) loading a Leica S raw file,
(2) changing the color profile, and then
(3) choosing "Save New Camera Raw Defaults" from the flyout menu?

Also, if you load a Leica S image and choose "Camera Raw Defaults" from the flyout menu, what happens?

Hi Eric,

that's how I do it.

If I have saved new defaults and haven't closed Photoshop since then, selecting 'Camera Raw Defaults' loads the saved defaults. But once I close and restart Photoshop, the factory defaults get used again, which are luminance noise reduction set to 10, lens profile and chromatic aberration correction enabled, and camera profile set to Adobe Standard.

Hi Christian,

Out of curiosity:

After you've saved your custom defaults, quit Ps, restarted Ps, and loaded a new Leica S raw image into ACR, what happens if you then go to the flyout menu and choose "Camera Raw Defaults" (2nd item)?

Hi Eric,

the factory defaults get loaded (Adobe Standard profile, etc).

Please note that I'm talking about batch-processed files (Photoshop menu > File > Scripts > Image Processor), no changes made so no settings are stored in the DNG file. If I have edited a file, the changes I made are preserved.

I am guessing this topic has not been fully addressed. I am having the same problem in Lightroom CC with the S files. I don't generally use Photoshop CC for camera raw, so I have not noticed it there.

Basically, it is not possible to save defaults for the S camera DNG's, which is quite frustrating. It is possible to update the defaults, and it works while Lightroom is open, but upon quitting and reopening, the resetting an image to default brings it back to Adobe's defaults.

P.S. Why is luminance smoothing applied as default to Leica S ISO 100 files at all? It seems only to reduce detail...there is hardly any noise to speak of. I don't believe it was a default for the S2...
