I have never experienced more frequent crashes in anything, and it is killing my productivity. Anyone else having problems with this one?

There are known issues when editing some vector shapes. A fix for this is currently being tested.

Hi Elliott,

As Chris mentioned, there are some problems editing vector shapes, but as far as I know, this is the first we've heard about a crashing bug with vector shapes.  Can you explain a little bit more about what you're seeing and the steps that reproduce the bug?  Do you get it consistently?  Do you get it with any file or only one?  What OS are you running?  Version of Photoshop?  Also, the document you're using, do you know what version of the app it was created with?  All this info can help us narrow down the issue.

Thanks,
David

Hi David,

As a side-note, it's really unclear how to find my own posts, or to find out if I've received responses on this forum. I think I've posted this again because I had no idea it had been responded to, or even successfully posted. I started a post about this a long time ago, but it looks like the issue hasn't been improved much.

Anyway, I'm not 100% sure what the specific criteria are yet but I crash 100% of the time that I try to edit certain vector shapes. It usually happens when I'm copying/pasting vector data. It also happens when I just try to edit some simple shapes, but not others. For example, I draw a one pixel line, then decide I want to make it two pixels, so I zoom in, grab the top two corners, and am about the nudge the points when photoshop crashes. Did this exact same thing 3 times in a row before I just drew a new line. With the new line, I can edit it without crashing.

I've also crashed a bunch of times while trying to draw arrows. I'll draw a diagonal vector line, then try to copy paste, and rotate it for the other half of the arrow head, and I crash every single time...not sure at exactly which point I crash, but it happens consistently enough that I literally can't draw my own arrows with vector shapes in photoshop.

Hi Elliott,

If Photoshop is crashing, it should present you with a crash log.  Can you post the ENTIRE log here?  That would be immensely helpful.

Thanks,
David

I don't see a crash log. It just closes without a trace.

That itself is a problem.  PS should crash and leave a log, not just disappear.  It makes other apps or even the OS more suspect as the culprit.  What other applications are you running?  Side-car apps?  Utilities?

So I just reproduced the crash in two completely separate documents. I drew a vector line, then I copied and pasted the shape data. Then I hit Command+T to transform it, and that is exactly the point at which Photoshop crashed. As soon as I hit Command+T.

I also just tried to repeat it with other vector shapes, and photoshop doesn't crash. It is only when I copy and paste the vector data of a line to the same layer, then hit Command+T to transform it. Without fail. Every single time.

Hope this helps.

Hi Elliott,

What OS are you running?  On Win 8.1 and Mac OS 10.10.3 I'm seeing no problem doing this exact same thing.  Also, you are getting the alert that transforming a shape line in this way turns it into a regular path, right?

I'm starting to suspect that you have another element in play here triggering these problems for you, since I cannot reproduce them following the same steps on a clean operating system.  Are you running any third party plugins, by chance?

Thanks,
David

Did you have this problem with 10.10.3 or a previous version of Mac OS?

My Photoshop CC crashes every time I paste line shape made with a Line Tool. Easiest way to crash PS is to draw one line, then another, select the new one with Path Selection tool, cut it* and paste into the first layers path - boom - instacrash.

It seems that only line shapes do that. I can paste rectangles and circles fine.

20150529 r88 x64 on up to date Win 7 x64.

* which removes the layer and selects the previous one, but copying and selecting old layer works too

Hiya Jarek,

Are the shapes pasted from a document that's the same resolution (dpi) as the target document?

I've tried to repro this on my Win7 machine but cannot.  Are you seeing the pink bounding boxes and guides when you select your lines?  Are you available to demo this bug for me via a web-hosted screenshare?

Thanks,
David

You need to install the 2015.0.1 update (aka 16.0.1) to pick up the fix for this issue.

@David and @Chris:

Thank you for reading the comment and taking the time to reply. During the week after posting that message I notice available updates (at least two). One of those fixed that paste issue.
