hey all :)

i do have an idea for photoshop:
a tool you can create special lines and areas with...

its all about mirroring and copying for patterns and so on. and LIVE ! ! !

worflow for example:
1. create new file
2. create a selection and tell ps to use this area for the tool (toll area selection) there is a box, and everything thats inside that box gets shown shifted as instance.
and you can set how many times this copys are repeated (like in ai)
3. fill hte area with your motives, enjoy the pattern

you can easily do mandalas by creating a tool's line and tell ps to copy everything of the one side of the line in an angle of x from this point...what ever...^^ :)

just make simply one or two achses mirror lines to make symmetrical drawings very simple and LIVE (mirroring while drawing)

what the tool is all about is:
- implementing of these tool lines (mirroring, repeating, ...) with a huge amount of settings
- all editing is live and while working
- you can edit every single "copy and repeat" becaus they are instances

i hope you like it, i think some people would like that
can also be included in ai :D

If I'm understanding you correctly, that's already a thing. It's not a tool. It's a command. It's called Step and Repeat.

yes, there have been requests for this for two decades now, and it's not looking like Adobe will ever implement, so don't get your hopes up...

A couple of years ago I completed scripts for Photoshop that actually do some of what you're talking about. Go look in the Adobe Exchange, where you can find my script named Wallpaper. There's a trial version there that you can try out (but you are restricted to seeing previews only). The URL to get there is:

The script makes all 17 wallpaper patterns from differently=shaped templates - it is thoroughly documented there, I think. Happy patterning!

You can simulate this with a Smart Object. Create a new layer, convert to Smart Object, then duplicate and apply your transforms. When you edit the object, all of your changes will show on all layers.

I'm guessing that you could make an action or script that would extend this idea pretty easily.
