Lightroom Classic: Need to change back to importing from device as default

At some point LR Import started defaulting to the DCIM folder on the SD card under files instead of the card as a whole under devices. This can create a major issue, especially if you don't know better and aren't paying attention. Sony for example doesn't put their video files in the DCIM folder, so even if 'include subfolders' is on, it would be easy to format a card without realizing that you never imported everything. The simple solution is to go back to selecting the device and including subfolders. Not sure why it changed.

Hi Jason,
We changed the default behaviour because Import from folders is much more faster as compared to importing from devices.
User can select the root folder to import all the files.
And if DCIM folder is not present, automatically the selection will be of root folder.
But your concern is valid. There may be cases where User is not paying attention to the selection and after import completes she decides to format the card.

We'll look into it.

Thanks for your valuable feedback.

Regards,
Abhishek

If I may suggest. You might want to consider Copying the files from the card to the proper drive/folder of your computer and then use Import in LR with the Add option selected.
