Photoshop: My brushes aren't going soft anymore. They all act like a felt pen. What's going on?

what's up? My soft brushes all look like this.

You're on a tool (like the pencil) that doesn't allow soft edges.

Yes. But I chose soft round 450. No matter what brush I select, I get this pencil.

Change the TOOL in the toolbar.
The pencil tool (and a few others) only allow hard edged brushes, and change the brush previews to show that.

I will attempt to clarify my problem again. It does not matter what brush/tool/setting I try to choose/change/select. I end up with the same brush and characteristics.

Even if you change the tool from the Pencil to the Brush tool on the toolbar?

i am having the same trouble, but it. it don't matter what the setting is i have soft brushes

Do you have the Brush tool selected or the Pencil tool?

I had the same problem, no matter what tool setting.
It helped me to set the image mode from Indexed to RGB.
