Lightroom: Multiple legends for multi-language photographers

I have two really annoying things with which I have to deal a lot:

- The possibilities to create multiple legends for a same picture...Why that ?? Because for example I have a french agency and a US agency and both want my picture but in each case I have to create a new legend in french and english. And each time I will have to erase one of the languages.
So would love to see a multiple legend possibility to have my english and french legend versions !

- Another thing, creating a way that when you approve some picture and after importing in a collection, the approval flag doesn't disappear in the collection.

Hi David,

One thing you could try today is to make a Virtual Copy of the photo in Lightroom and assign English metadata to one copy and French metadata to the other. This essentially keeps two independent instances of the metadata for the photo but does not require making two actual copies of the orginal photo. You can then then export the copy with the appropriate metadata to deliver images to the agencies, and will not have to erase and re-enter captions.

The metadata property labeled "Caption" in the English user interface for Lightroom (and also labeled "Description" when using the IPTC view of metadata) can be stored in files in XMP using a format that does, technically, support storing versions of the caption in multiple languages. There are a few other standard properties in XMP of the language-alternate type including the "Title" field, but unfortunately the "Headline" field does not.

Obviously this capability is not supported by the user interface, so, while it's technically possible to store a caption in multiple languages using standard metadata, one would have to rely on special add-on software like a custom Lightroom plugin or custom File Info panel for Bridge and Photoshop (or potential future versions of Lightroom and other products) to edit and view the multi-language captions. The multiple-languages captions stored in XMP would be visible, but not editable, in the "Advanced" panel in File Info in Bridge and Photoshop, but obvioulsy that does not offer the utility or quality of interaction you are probably looknig for. Off the top of my head, I don't know of any software that does support multiple-language captions right now, but you may want to ask on the Lightroom SDK developer forum (http://forums.adobe.com/community/lig...) and on the developer forum for File Info and XMP (http://forums.adobe.com/community/des.... There may be a developer out there who can provide a custom solution.
