Photoshop: Move tool right click menu shows nearby shape layers

Right click menu (listing layers under selected click) includes nearby shape layers that are not immediately below the clicked region, making it increasingly difficult to select (or the UI to auto-select) the topmost element as documents gain increasing numbers of layers.

In the image below, with 20 pixels separating the magenta shapes, it is not possible for me to auto-select the black ellipse shape.

Which version are you using?

Have you installed all updates?

Yes, Updated. Not a recent issue. Has been since starting with CS6. Just got around to posting.

Machine is: Mac Pro with NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512 MB
