More options for colouring/defining Groups in Photoshop

Photoshop is the pre-eminent image program, however, if I want to colour-code my Groups, under 'Group Properties' it gives me only 6 colours. I am using hundreds of layers and often over a dozen 'Groups' (and often many groups within groups). With only 6 colours to choose from, it gets very messy.

Why not offer the whole Color Swatch library?

Or even better, why not make the contents of the folder appear as an icon over the folder? That way I don't have to type 'tree 1', 'tree 2', or 'character 1' etc, I can see at a glance what's in the folder. Please see the before and after images attached for a quick 'sketch' of the idea. The icons on the folders won't mean much to you, and they are small, but I'll know exactly what's in there.

As I said, it's an image program, why not use images to denote what's in the folders (or on the layers too, for that matter)?
