Photoshop: More advanced options on transform selection.

There is one thing i really think could be improved in photoshop.

When i want to find the middle of something in PS i do the following:
Make a selection with the "rectangular marquee tool" press crtl + T and drag a ruler into the center. Thats a old trick i guess ( i know about snap.. :) )

Why not make this brilliant function even more brilliant by dividing the transform selection into as many or as little squares as you wish? Where is the menu for that?

If you have to make a square and divide it by three it's a pain - i know there is scripts for that, but having it built in would make my day! :)

PS:
This can (kind of) be done in with "crop". You can crop to the "rule of third.."
