Lightroom: Monitor 2 stops updating in Develop LR4.3 W7-64.

LR 4.3, develop module, monitor 2. From time to time monitor 2 stops updating with edits. If I switch from one image to another, monitor 2 correctly displays the new image (always) (ie monitor 2 is not frozen at all). However, while editing an image, monitor 2 eventually stops updating. Under these conditions, I can switch to a different image and back again, but while the second image displays correctly, on returning to the first image, it still displays which ever edit step it is stuck on. I can switch monitor 2 off, I can exit LR, but still, when I come back to that image in develop it is back on the wrong edit step. If I start different actions, eventually one of these will restore correct behaviour (mostly on monitor 2): Change zoom, change to grid view, change to the original import (using history on monitor 1 (this does not usually work)), however none of these are reliable ways of kicking monitor 2 to display the correct version of the image, but eventually one will work. So far as I can tell, the problem is at its worst with small jpegs and seems not to happen at all with large raw files. Clearing the ACR and video cache has no effect.

Monitor 1 works correctly throughout.

It might be helpful to add some background information:
The windows 7-64 install has 8GB RAM, there is around 4.5GB free.
On monitor 2 in 1:1 view, it appears that there is no caching at all. Using the hand tool, the picture pixelates as it is dragged around and then quickly jumps to full resolution (maybe this is intended?), but even for a small move this happens and moving back again, it repeats. Ie LR4.3 does not make any attempt to store (cache) the fully rendered image on monitor 2. (I don't use monitor 1 in this way, maybe it is the same on that, I haven't observed). This seems very odd, and given the abundance of free RAM, why?
I am aware that luminance NR causes performance slowdowns and am not using it at this stage of my workflow. Ie, monitor 2 is not delayed by a heavy processor load.
There is very little else running, I have AV and monitor calibration (Spyder), I spend time going through services etc. switching off all the ones I don't need (or want!). Generally I have a browser running (like now).
The card is nVidia GeForce 8400 GS with latest drivers (updated in the last week or so).

I have tried on monitor 1 and sure enough it does the same, the develop module only holds the current pixels 'developed' and it is constantly re-drawing the 1:1 view as it is dragged around, this would appear to make more than 8GB RAM look pointless if better LR performance is the goal.

In the Library module, the image is held 1:1 and there is no delay as it is dragged around on either monitor.

Judging by the lack of comments from anyone else, it would seem that I am the only person who has noted that in Develop, monitor 2 stops updating from time to time. Curious.
