I somehow lost lens profiles in this last update on LR4. I went from having numerous Sony lens options, to just a couple (including a E mount lens which is irrelevant to Alpha cameras) . How can I get them back?

The lens profiles are particular to raw OR jpg, with the raw format having many more than jpg. See how many you have for each of those two formats.

You might also try installing the public beta on Adobe Labs: LR 4.3 RC

According to this http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/mu... ACR/Lightroom only has a couple of profiles for sony branded lenses. The rest are Tamrons and Sigmas.

So before you try doing all what I said, just change Make from Sony to Sigma and Tamron if that is the brand of lenses you have.

I have the same four RAW profiles and one JPG profile under my LR-64 resources folder:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.3 RC\Resources\LensProfiles\1.0\Sony

The same 4+1 profiles exist in my Camera Raw resources folder:
C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\1.0\Sony

There are many Sigma- and some Tamron-brand lens profiles for Sony cameras for both LR and CR, example of LR's:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.3 RC\Resources\LensProfiles\1.0\Sigma\Sony
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.3 RC\Resources\LensProfiles\1.0\Tamron\Sony

I have a few community-supplied lens profiles that I've gotten via the Adobe Lens Profile Downloader under my users folder:
C:\Users\--username--\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\1.0\Downloaded

Can you verify if you have files in the above locations, assuming you're on Windows, Macs should have analogous numbers of files in different locations.

If the files all appear to be in order, then one thing that can happen is the index.dat file, which caches all the lens profile locations needs to be rebuilt, where renaming (or removing) it then reinstalling or perhaps even just or renaming (removing) and re-launching LR could be enough to rebuild it. It should have the same date or newer as the lens profiles if it was rebuilt at the time they were installed.

The location for the index.dat file is above the lens-profile files, in the LensProfiles parent folder of the 1.0 and lens-brand subfolders.

You would want to rename or remove this index.dat file after exiting Lightroom and any Photoshop and Bridge programs if you also have those on the computer. Once the file has been renamed or removed, then relaunch LR, and if that doesn't work to rebuild the index.dat file, then exit and reinstall LR with the index.dat file, gone and make sure it is recreated, afterwards.

BTW, what exact camera model do you have, and what specific lenses are you expecting profiles for?

forget it, i'm dropping Sony anyways...they've discontinued too many lenses for FF and apparently having financial problems. Going to Nikon

I see the same 4+1 lens profiles on an old machine backup from Aug 2010, so it's strange that you used to have more, because I don't think they came or would have disappeared from an Adobe product install.

There are a few dozen community-supplied Sony full-frame lens profiles, some duplicates, and not all Sony-lenses, of course, that are available via the lens-profile downloader. These profiles are installed under your user folder, which would seem to disappear from LR if you changed user profiles and the index.dat was rebuilt during a product install--did you have a glitch where you had to install LR from a different user profile, and then switched back to your current profile?

Although I am a Canon user, I can't argue with a choice to move to Nikon from Sony.

yeah, it's time to go as a Sony photographer. Nikon and Canon users have anything and everything they want/need while Sony people just wait/hope for what they need to come out. I may go Canon if they do release the rumored 46MP FF camera...otherwise it's D800E time
