When I open a PSD and there are some missing fonts, why not tell me what those fonts are, sort of like Flash does: http://cl.ly/1w1x2V350V341a0Z2p2g

Could you please share some more information on what you're encountering. Exact steps would be awesome. Normally, Photoshop does identify which font is missing when you open a PSD. Thanks!

If you look in your layers panel, any type layer that needs updating will have a yellow triangle with an exclamation point symbol in the lower right corner. If the Type tool is active and this layer is selected, then in the Options Bar and in the Character panel, any missing fonts will display as "[name of missing font]".

Now, that said, it might be possible to pop a dialog when you initially open the file with a list of all missing fonts in the document, although this might have other repercussions.

The latter is much better. Having to go through a large PSD is a huge pain in the arse. I never usually have anything nice to say about Flash but one good thing it does is tell me what fonts are missing from the FLA as I launch it.

Hi Julian,

When you open a file, Photoshop will automatically tell you what fonts are missing.  Further, if the fonts are Typekit, you are given the change to download them and if no replacements can be found, you are given the option to do a global substitution.  If you do not see this feature, then your version is pretty far out of date and you should upgrade.  I want to say that we put this in about a year ago or more.

Thanks,
David

In the past, whenever I opened a .PSD file which had missing fonts (usually when working on different computers) it would warn me about this and the option to substitute such font.

Ever since I upgraded to CS6, I haven't been able to tell the name of such missing fonts. It won't display the name anymore. Am I missing something?

I am using Windows 8

We slipped this feature into the latest version of Photoshop CC. Now, when fonts are missing, the application will tell you which particular fonts are absent.

Enjoy!

Hi,

I am new to using photoshop. When I open a .psd file, I get the following error.

"Some text layers contains fonts that are missing. These layers will need to have the missing fonts replaced before they can be used for vector based outputs"

When I click ok, the layer is highlighted in yellow with brackets.

Pls. let me know if there is a way to identify the missing fonts.

Thanks.
