Bridge: Issue writing multiple metadata keyword to large quantities of images

I have a rather large database of photos and am using Bridge to try to add keywords to the files metadata. Often times I have to select 500+ photos and add multiple keywords to those photos. I believe that Bridge scans for changes to the directory every 2 seconds. The issue with this is say I select the 500 photos and select the first keyword to apply to it. I have 100+ keywords so it takes me a while to find the second one I am going to apply, say 10 seconds. By the time I select the second keyword, Bridge has already written the first keyword to say 150 of the photos. The next time it scans the directory for changes, it will see the second keyword selected. The outcome should be that all 500 photos get both keywords. What is happening is that 150 get the first keyword and all 500 get the second keyword. It seems that since Bridge on the second scan of the directory, doesn't realize it is already writing data and just assumes only those 150 photos should have the first keyword.

What I would like is a way stop Bridge from automatically scan the directory and starting the metadata writing process. I would rather have a button to click to start the metadata writing process whenever I was done adding all the tags I want to all the different files.

This is a huge time waste right now because if I see that the process has already started (bottom left corner) I have to wait for it to complete until I can add any more keywords.
