Photoshop: Marquee tool makes the image go black (Win video driver)

Hi, I'm working with PS6. When I try to use any type of marquee selection tool, it makes the entire image completely black (and therefore useless, can't see any part of it).. like there's a black mask over everything. Toolbars still visible, and you can see the thumbnail of the image on the right bar, but not in the main screen. What's going on? My other versions of photoshop don't do this. Is this a bug? thanks.

You can disable GPU drawing (to avoid the driver bug), or update your video card driver from the GPU maker's website (to get it fixed).

Thank you Chris... not sure what the GPU is, can you be a bit more specific? I googled it, but am fearful of messing with my computer and making things worse!

Graphics Processing Unit - the core of your video card.
