I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but after reading someone has Flickr installed, I realized I didn't have this problem until I added the Flickr publishing service about a week ago. Could just be a coincidence.

Pure coincidence.. also because Adobe have confirmed it as a bug and looking into it.

I haven't read all the latest replies, but someone brought to my attention they have the same problem when opening a photo from Bridge.

I could not replicate that problem myself, but maybe worth looking into by Adobe?

I don't know if this will work for others, but it works for me.

I work with Bridge and PS and had the same issues, below is how I solved this,

Open Photoshop with a TIFF or PSD file, which has layers.

Do not open via ACR, but directly in Photoshop, do not open with Photoshop already opened.

I Just select a new layer in that file, which fixes the problem for all other files and the grayed out area's.

However, I need to do this every time I start Photoshop again.

It's a silly issue, but it gives me time to wait for a fix weithout the need to uninstall/install

The bug was acknowledged a week ago. Regular progress reports and ETA would be "nice". This is more than a little inconvenient.

Hi,

Just to be sure... Could those users having the problem please check whether they still have it after enabling the Run as administrator  option in the photoshop.exe and lightroom.exe (and/or bridge.exe) properties (right-click | Properties | Compatibility) ?

Thanks.

Hi Patrick,

Setting Run as administrator in lightroomcc.exe and lightroomcc.exe makes no difference to the problem.  Photoshop.exe and bridge.exe don't have a Compatibility tab in Properties in Windows 10, is the setting somewhere else?

I don't know if it has been reported that the problem is identical whether you edit in PS from LR Classic CC or LR CC.

Photoshop.exe and bridge.exe don't have a Compatibility tab in Properties
Instead of choosing Properties after right-clicking the .exe, select Troubleshoot Compatibility. Or you could have a look there :

If Ps and Lr require Windows 10 to run the things in compatibility mode, then Adobe has some 'splaining to do. I will also absolutely, positively never, ever even consider running the thing in administrator mode. In fact, I run it as a user without access to admin privs. You should, too.

I agree but on my system, I'm unable to run PS and Bridge another way (running Windows 10 1803 but it was also the case with previous versions). I have to run them as an administrator (not in any compatibility mode). This problem is lasting since years. Applying the various suggestions found in this forum, on the Adobe site  and elsewhere for fixing permissions never helped. PS and Bridge are the only programs forcing me to do this.

https://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/ps-bridge-and-lightroom-still-need-to-be-run-...
https://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/cc-apps-needing-administrator-rights
https://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/bridge_will_only_run_in_administrative_mode
https://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/many-ps-20-0-1-functions-missing-on-image-ope...

Still waiting for answers... During all these years I could observe that running PS and Bridge as an administrator is a way to solve many problems. I'm not alone with this issue. This is why I suggested trying this workaround.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Everything greyed out in photoshop if I Import from Lightroom.

Hi, new to forums, searched but can't find the solution to this.  If I right click an image in lightroom and open with photoshop 2019, all the menu options for editing the picture are greyed out (All the filters etc).  But if I open the image from a folder it works fine.  This is a recent problem, never had it before.  Searched google, can't find an answer.

When I start PS 20.0.1 from LR Classic I can't make a new layer (all optios grey).  The problem doesn't occur when I first start PS and then send from LR a picture to PS. Is there anyone who has a solution.  Thanks!

Turns out even more is broken.  Skylum Aurora won't launch correctly either.  I ended up rolling back to PS 19.x.  All of my problems are solved.  I think I'll wait a while before I upgrade to 20.x.

If you select "edit in update, then s muted of problems show up you might experience problems such as quick keys missing, and missing, and all filters, adjustments gone. You must all ready have zps opened when you expo8 from light room, or save the photo, close ps, reopen ps and reopen folder. This sucks!!!!

Same problem for me in PS 20.0.1 opening from LR Classic CC v8.0; opening PS before LR seems to fix most but not all the time.  Going back to v7.5 also fixes it and another v8.0 bug (book module not saving changes).

Using the Edit In Photoshop command from LR Classic CC, layers and some commands are inoperative in Photoshop (latest 2019 version) if it was not already open. It all works fine if Photoshop is already open. Running Windows 10 (1803, fully patched).

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled When I try to Edit LIghtroom Photos in Photoshop all almost all commands are grey....

Since the recent update to Photoshop CC and Lightroom Classic CC I've found that almost all the commands in PS are greyed out, can't even duplicate layer. A few days ago, suddenly allowed me to edit, but again, can't edit.

Please help.

P.S.: I am using Win10

Erick,
If the Home Screen is enabled in PS, try to disable it. If this doesn't work, try to launch PS first before trying to edit from another program.

No, I can't take the credit. I was merely passing along what was given to me. A person, from Spain I think, whose English maybe wasn't as strong as their Spanish, suggested to remove the Startup screen. I tested it and it worked form me, so I thought to pass it along, to help other users and to maybe give the developers another clue as to what might be going on (or wrong).

UPDATE UPDATE

It's buried in a reply further up the conversation so I am reposting here so everyone can take advantage of it. The fix is to go to Preferences - General settings, select Disable the Home Screen

That's it - if you Disable the Home Screen, the problem goes away and you can open LR and PS whichever way round you choose.

I think I know what happened during testing.  Testers turned off the home screen to speed startup.  They missed the problem.

Problem:Opening light room and clicking "edit in Photoshop" causes a photoshop that cannot be used to edit an image, everything is grayed out. The only current solution is to open photoshop first, lightroom second, then press "edit in Photoshop" so that I can use it.

When I go from Lightroom to edit files as layers in Photoshop CC 20.0.1 release, layers are disabled. This happens only when Lightroom has to open photoshop and only with the latest release.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Photoshop CC 2019: Adjustment layers not working.

After the latest update, the adjustment layers no longer work. When any adjust layer button is pressed, all it does is bring up the properties dialog. I have had to switch back to last years PS in order to use adjustment layers.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled cannot merge layers Photoshop 20.0.1.

In Lightroom I select a photo and click "Edit in Photoshop CC 2019". After that I create layers in Photoshop and work with them, but I cannot merge layers. Ctrl+Shift+E or Ctrl+Shift+Alt+E does not work, right-click menu is inactive too. Drop-down lists menu "Layer", "Select", "Image" and "Filter" are not active.
My OS: Win10 Pro 1809
Solved by deleting CC2019 (ver 20.0.1) and installing CC2018 (ver 19.1.7). Photoshop CC2018 is stable.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Sometimes menus/commands are unavailable.

Sometimes when I select JPG images in LR Classic and import them in the PS, menus and commands do not work.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Select JPG images in LRC
2. Right click on them choosing "Edit in PS CC2019"
3. LRC asking whether to use the adjustments - choose YES
4. PS freshly starting.
5. Menus are blank and keyboard shortcuts like CTRL M do not work at all

As shown in the gif (it's animated gif, please click on the image if it's not moving for you). Notice blank menus.

Okay Adobe, the problem has been identified, it is repeatable, demonstrable and we're now wondering when you're going to, you know, FIX IT?

Continued radio silence does NOT help your fan base defend you, you know?

It's running thin because you have really no idea how software development function.
Bug has to be internally verified on different hardware and differing OS versions. Bug has to be fixed and testing the same way. Beta has to be released for the same testing. Installer has to be updated as do web sites. Documentation has to be updated. One bug alone is rarely updated too. As an actual Adobe software developer and alpha/beta for them, since 1992, I actually understand how this work takes place. And now you kind of do. Relax! When it's done, it's done.
Then there will be other bugs in every software program and the bitching and moaning can start all over again. ;-(

OK, then how about some release notes that document the problems found so far and workarounds if available?  I get that this isn't a showstopper, but proactively telling your install base what they can expect would go a long way.

Release notes are provided with an actual release
The temporary fix is found here and elsewhere on the web in various forums. That's one reason Adobe and other's host such forums.

Which then forces Adobe's users to hunt down every bug and new "feature" as they encounter them.  Any wonder that many feel like they're your beta testers?

BTW, I know what RN's are.  I've helped write them.  They're a list of non-compliant functions you know of from testing (along with changed behaviors).  What I'm proposing is that rather than a static document, a live list of what has been found post release be published.  Surely that list is being kept internally (I would hope).  The volume of posts on this topic alone should be informing someone that a better way to communicate that information needs to be found.

Think of it this way; How would you make an informed decision to upgrade if the only way to know, is to scan multiple forum posts which may or may not be labeled with the release ID and which may or may not be user error?

I am a beta (and alpha) tester <g>
I've written Release Notes too. For an Adobe PS Automate plug-in.

I make informed decisions by informing myself and that means research. Adobe in fact provides numerous methods of informing users; blogs (stay tuned.... can't say more but keep an eye on em), on their actual web site, in their UtoU forums and within their own software.

Thanks for reinforcing my critique.  I shouldn't have to look all over the Adobe universe to find that information.  It's one thing to post links all over that point back to one source of truth, and it's another to have that information spread all over in bits and pieces like some easter egg hunt.  The winner gets an informed decision on to install an upgrade.  The losers spend hours searching, well, everywhere and potentially getting bad advice in the process.
