Let's cut the name calling and encourage Adobe to become a quality, reliable, supplier of imaging software which works out of the box hassle free.  A change of internal culture is what is needed and wanted.

The answer to this problem is simple: go to Preferences/General in Photoshop and tick the second option down - disable home screen. Problem solved! It's a new feature that has been added without realising it affected LR, but it is quite unnecessary so tick the box and it goes away and LR and PS work as usual.

Good solution, thank you Robert for sharing this tip.  I question Adobe's culture of not being forthcoming about the operational procedures of these programs.  And don't get me started on the hassle of Rush being 'not compatible' when attempting to install via Creative Cloud and the hoops to jump through to diagnose and resolve this issue [hint: required win10 update to a certain version].

It is very simple. But some people would rather vent then fix the temporary problem.

You would have to pay an awful lot more for software without bugs; many thousands of dollars instead of a measly hundred or so!! ;)

"A hundred or so"

I think your estimate is way low if you are talking about Lr.   Some of them are minor but there are quite a few severe bugs that have been in Lr for a LONG time that really need a fix.

Nobody is expecting bug free software and certainly not me as a former developer. What is expected from a company like Adobe is

1) proper regression testing before releasing a new version and development methodology allowing to eliminate the most obvious bugs before they hit the users. This is obviously not done.

2) proper handling of bugs when they are reported. There are bugs in LR and PS that are lasting since years (5 years, 7 years,..). This is not acceptable.

and some people would blithely pay more and more for a service that is getting worse and worse, and say and do nothing about it. Horses for courses.

@Geoff, I'm confused as to what gave you the impression that Andrew Rodney was an Adobe employee. He isn't designated as such on this forum. If he was an employee his login would indicate as much.

Thanks,

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Compatibility issue between LR and PS?.

Whenever I start PS out of LR with Command+E in order to continue editing all tools in PS are greyed out and are not selectable. The workaround I found out is to save image in .tif format and reopen it either in PS directly or with Command+E out of LR. This happens since last upgrade. Anyone an idea what is wrong?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Photoshop CC 2019 Menu Items Grayed Out.

When exporting from Lightroom Classic CC to Photoshop CC with the right-click menu item "Edit In Adobe Photoshop CC 2019" the resulting files have almost totally grayed out menu items in Photoshop, making them impossible to edit or apply filters to the files, with no ability to bring the menu items back to life. Sometimes I can open Photoshop first, before clicking the Edit In selection and this process will work properly, but not always. It seems to want to fail once before I can finagle it into working properly. It is becoming a major pain in the butt, especially when editing many files in any particular project that require Photoshop. I have seen other posts on the Internet regarding this problem, but none here so I thought I would put it up.

I see that today there are updates for Lr CC and Br CC. Hopefully this will address the recent issues.

Well! I need to do more testing, but at a first attempt the issue between Br CC and Ps CC, whereby sending from Br to Ps left the Ps menus grayed out, appears to be fixed. Yes, I did go into Photoshop Preferences and clear the "Disable the Home Screen" setting and then closed Ps before launching Br.

Also my problem with zoom "Fit on SCreen" not zooming to fill the available space also appears to be fixed.

Thank you Adobe,
Peter

I did exactly the same and menus were grayed out like before when opening a file from Lightroom.

I don't have the problem when calling PS from Bridge. Maybe the problem is at the ACR level. In that case, the bug may or may not appear depending on the ACR settings or depending on the way Lightroom communicates with PS which is different from Bridge.

Ok, so maybe not perfectly fixed. If I launch  Br and select a raw image and "open", then Ps launches and in turn opens ACR. I choose open in ACR and the image opens in Photoshop, and all is fine. Menus are not grayed out.

Now I close Ps and Br. Then launch Br and select the same raw file and "open in Camera Raw", (which launches ACR independent of Ps) and then "open" the image from ACR, which then launches Ps and my menus are once more grayed out. Sigh.

BTW, I don't use Lr (even though I installed it in case some day I might)

I'm really wondering how this "Home Screen" can interfere with this mechanism. This is a user interface element that normally should have nothing to do with the way other applications communicate with PS. This gives a worrisome idea about how this UI is designed.

Note: This issue requires an update to Photoshop CC. Updates to Lightroom, Bridge, etc. do not affect this issue.

Ok thanks. I will stay tuned for an update to Ps CC, hopefully in the not too distant future - actually this is mildly annoying but since there is an acceptable workaround (a couple of work arounds in fact) it's not killing me. I'm still using Br and Ps.

Some workarounds. Open a raw file directly to PS from explorer. Then you can start opening from LR without issue.

Keep opening from LR. After 5 images or so it works eventually which is so odd.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Adjustment panel opens document properties.

When working on a document in Photoshop CC 2019 (**that's been brought in straight from Lightroom**) on Windows 10, if you click ANY of the adjustment icons from the adjustment panel (curves, levels, vibrance, etc.) all that happens is a little "Document Properties" box pops up. You don't get the new adjustment layer in your layers panel or the ability to actually make the adjustments. However, by clicking the small "adjustment layer" icon at the bottom of the layers panel and selecting any adjustment from the pop-up list, it works as it normally does. The issue seems to just be in the adjustment panel with the individual icons for each adjustment. Again, this issue is only when the image is brought in straight from Lightroom. If I open PS manually and "open" the same image, everything works normally.

- Select area - Edit - Crop (but crop tool works)
- Paste -> Copy image in Chrome, than I go in Photoshop and Paste it's inactive

I'm using photoshop cc 2019, with the latest update (20.0 WAS WORKING) but this latest version does not allow me to edit layers.  I can not ctrl+j to duplicate layers, or add adjustment layers.  Everything is greyed out.   I can hold alt+drag to duplicate layers, but again, I then cannot edit these layers.

As I've said several times before on different threads, it seems to be caused by the new Home Screen in Photoshop. So if you go to Edit/Performance/General and check the box 'Disable Home Screen', Photoshop will perform as usual. NOT a problem with LR as Andrew said.

I too had the same problem going from LR to PS.

I found a work-around as some others here did as well in that if I simply saved out the file then pulled it back in everything worked normally...

BUT  one day I forgot and I had been working on a complex selection when I went to save the selection, it was greyed out...  Oh Oh!

If I saved the PSD file and then closed it just to reopen it, I Would have lost my selection.

I read here that if you disabled the Home Page in PS it might correct the problem, so I started thinking of all things related and extrapolated a theory, and it worked for me, saving my selection and everything worked normally.

I simply undocked the working window so that it was stand alone, and that fixed it for me.

Your mileage may vary, but if it worked for me it may work for others and I thought I'd put my 2 cents in   :)

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Lightroom & Photoshop issues.

I recently had to rebuild my PC so now I run an AMD Threadripper 1950x with lots of RAM. I’m running Windows 10 and I have the Photography package i.e. Lightroom & Photoshop. However, I have ran into some problems when I use “edit in Photoshop command” in Lightroom, Photoshop opens up as normal but if I try to do duplicate background or delete layer all the controls are greyed out, same with any of the selection menu. When I load Photoshop and then open the same files all the above controls work as expected. I have tried reinstalling without any change do I have some setting wrong or is there something else going on here.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Shortcuts no longer work in Photoshop when opening images through Lightroom.

Since the recent update, I am not able to use shortcut keys after opening images in Photoshop from Lightroom (Edit in Photoshop menu item in Lightroom)  I also notice that many menu items in PS are grayed out. I have figured out that if I open Photoshop first or if I close my file and reopen in Photoshop it works. Will this annoying glitch be addressed in a future update?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Photoshop CC 2019 has been a terrible update, will there be a fix soon?.

Photoshop cc2019 keeps crashing. or mentions not enough RAM. And when I select "edit in photoshop" from lightroom It doesn't allow me to edit. I have to have Photoshop open first and then import from lightroom It's a workaround. I love using photoshop but these last week made me regret updating.

I hope you guys can fix some of the issues. In any case merry christmas and all that.

When I open an image from Lightroom Classic for editing in Photoshop (Edit In > Adobe Photoshop CC 2019), I face the following issues: The menus and commands in Photoshop CC are disabled. The keyboard shortcuts don't work.

I have tried Disabling the home screen in Photoshop and opening Photoshop prior to opening Lightroom Classic CC, but this work around does not help.

Any suggestions,
Thanks,

Alright guys. Two months. Two months passed without resolution of this annoying bug.

We are talking of two professional programs, made by the same company where we must use workaround to make them fully compatible.

With CC subscription, I really  hoped for more frequent updates, not to wait for cumulative patches every now and then...
