Same exact issue for me, came here to check if others have this issue too. Just finished installing the newest update and now photoshop is not usable from lightroom...

Can't replicate on this end, Mac OS Mojave. LR sends the raw to Photoshop, opens it, renders with ACR, no grayed out menus. A Windows only issue?

This is happening to me too and only after the update.  I have to resort to using PS CC 2018. that one still works when I launch from Lightroom.

I had 2 versions of PS on my computer the last 2018 version (thankfully) and the fresh new update 2019. If I made it use 2018, worked fine. If I let it use 2019 had this exact problem. Having it work ok depended upon which version was opened up (by LR or by me directly). For now, I have uninstalled the 2019 update.

Building frustration with Adobe.   Right now it costs more than the full master collection did, even updating it every 18 months.  Back then the update would bring way more functionality than we get per year at the moment, and far less of these showstopper bugs.   The business model works fine when you're not abusing it, but right now you are.  There are little protections in place for people who are forced into a subscription model, but that of course will change when enough people get continually shafted.

Just found a workaround. If you start PS first and LR after - then all works as it should. If LR is opening PS then menus grayed out

Worked for me.  I was going crazy trying to figure out if I had inadvertently changed a setting.  Thanks!

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Bug - Image and Layer options are greyed out if and only if Photoshop CC 2019 is ....

To reproduce:

1. open Lightroom CC Classic,

2. select any images, and right click then select 'Edit in Adobe Photoshop CC 2019'

3. once the image is opened in Photoshop CC 2019, the options under Image and Layers are all greyed out.

The workaround is:

1. open Lightroom CC Classic,

2. open Photoshop CC 2019,

3. Select any images, and right click then select 'Edit in Adobe Photoshop CC 2019'

4. once the image is opened in Photoshop, the options under Image and Layers are now available.

We're investigating this issue. Looks like launching Photoshop first, then launching Lightroom will force this to work correctly.

Disabling the Home Screen also works (as long as you don't work in full screen modes).

Actually, not really. EULAs do not protect a company from everything, much like how wavers don't really protect doctors. Such suits are currently open against both Symantec and Oracle. Additionally, there are bugs and continuous bugs, and just plain negligence. I do work in the development world, I work with testers on a daily basis, software architects, et cetera, and when this many bugs exist and continue to get past testing and dev, people are reprimanded or fired.

And yes, I use LR, as do a large portion of photographers, Are you saying its not professional software? Care to keep making brown nosing Adobe arguments?

The EULA which you still haven't read does protect Adobe from the so called and absolutely silly idea of a class action but by all means, waste your time venting and going down that rabbit hole, while the fix is already known and a software update will come soon.

That you use LR to do a larger portion of photography doesn't answer the question, even if you are not a hobbyist, as I suspect you are, you don't have a leg to stand on with this bug legally and a quick but through read of the contract you agreed to, just to access the software, would show. I'm not saying it's not professional software whatsoever, it is, I'm saying you're probably not a professional user of that software but that's moot if and when you read the contract with Adobe you agreed upon to then launch the software.
Have you not figured out how to bypass this bug? A bug that will, in time, be fixed?
Again, do tell us what software products you use, professionally or as a hobby that is 100% bug free. Of course, you cannot.
Enough said.

I mean you seem like someone who just likes to hear themselves talk but you really have a vague understanding of U.S. law when it comes to software. Also, no I am a professional based on the salary paid to do the work I do. Also, just because you request something doesn't mean I have to give it to you. You really just seem like yet another internet troll. And if you don't mean to be, I suggest altering your language.

Also, you speak upon Adobe's behalf out of faith? Because from what I see you have no affiliation with them. So you speak as if you know but have no real connection? Kind of confused on your angle of discussion here.

And no, nothing is bug free, but at the same point, I don't have recurring issues that Adobe seems to be having with products like Word, Capture One, Davinci Resolve, Solid Works, Blender, Excel, Madcap Flare, et ceteral, all which I use on an almost daily basis. But please, continue to berate because you really don't know any better.
Enough said.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled drop-down menus do not work when moving from lighroom.

Since the latest update of Photoshop CC, dropdown menus do not work when opening a file from Lightroom Classic. I need to close the file then re-open from the home page in Photoshop -the it open in Camera raw and all is well.

Same problem here! How I am going to work with my photos now? How to revert this change? Why official release is not tested with Lightroom????

We're investigating this issue. Looks like launching Photoshop first, then launching Lightroom will force this to work correctly.

This subscription is like politics and taxes. When they know they get our money they don't feel obligated to keep the word they gave. And when there's no consequence for that, we lose badly.

I have exactly the same problem too. The restart after 20.0.1 seemed to fix it...ONCE. I assumed after going to bed last night it was sorted but upon restarting the PC again this morning and reopening Lightroom any subsequent images opened in PS are back to having most of the menu options greyed-out! Incidentally why is my creative cloud menu saying I have BOTH PS 20.0.1 and 19.1.7 installed?

A workaround is to close the file, then re-open from the Photoshop home menu, then it works. It's clearly a bug, though.

I've now simply uninstalled PS 2019. Now LR defaults back to opening in PS 2018 which works fine. I'll reinstall once this has been sorted.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Photoshop CC 2019: Problems in editing files from Lightroom.

Hi!

My photoshop recently updated to CC v.20. I usually work between LR and PS, using the LR as a raw editor and PS to do the manipulation.
Since the update, I've experienced problems in PS. Sometimes doesn't recognize the file, not allow any function. Other times, allows it but gets really slow, presents problems in preview the effects, etc.
I'm not versed in code nor computer language, however, I cannot find any error or crash drive. CPU seems to be working normally and it seems recognized by PS. If I open the exact same file directly on PS, runs just fine.

Kind regards,
Alexandra

This is a likely due to a known problem with the recent release of PS 20.0.1. Open PS first and leave it open. When you want to do more editing in PS on an image you are working on in LR they should  open in PS as expected with all relevant editing commands available. See earlier comments from Jeffrey Tranberry on this issue.

Same issue for me.  Reset both LR and PS preferences and still have the problem.   If image is opened directly via Camera Raw, PS works fine.  Otherwise, we should get a rebate for LR/PS package because it doesn't work.

No rebate when something doesn't work. You 'agreed' for everything from them that doesn't work.

Here’s an easier workaround: Launch Photoshop first and then launch Lightroom. This will force everything to work correctly.

Jeffrey,
In case you didn't notice it yourselves.
To me it seems to be a Windows only problem.
All the people I've see who have this problem (myslef included) seem to be on Windows.
Hope this will help.

The workaround works fine for me and will have to do for now, but would be great if this could be solved ASAP.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled No longer possible to edit LR files in PS CC after last update.

After the very last  PS update, I can no longer edit images coming from LR. For instance, I cannot duplicate layer, all menus are grayed, I cannot stamp it to other workable one, etc. If I open that image directly from PS all works fine.  It also works right in my desktop which I did not update.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled LR to PS, PS is unresponsive to commands in first instance.

Since the recent PS updates, in Lightroom Classic CC when I select 'Edit in Photoshop' on one of my .NEF images, Photoshop loads up as normal but then I am unable to do anything with the image in PS. Duplicating a layer will not work as well as pretty much everything else. I have to close the image in PS, go back into LR and select 'Edit in Photoshop' again and then everything works fine, it is just a pain having to do this every session.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Lightroom to Photoshop flaw.

When trying to further edit a Lightroom image in Photoshop, I use PHOTO>Edit In> Photoshop 2019. When the image comes up in Photoshop, everything in the FILTER tab is greyed out, including all installed plug ins. When I uninstall 2019, and use 2018, everything works perfectly. What's the problem? This problem exists on two separate computers.

See above work-around - simply start Photoshop before you interact from Lightroom.

Reading this thread, it seems that everyone is reporting this issue between Lightroom and Photoshop. I am not a Lr user, but I do use Br and Ps and I have this problem when browsing Br and then opening an image through ACR to Ps. Most menus are grayed out. I am on Windows 10. I have rebooted, uninstalled/reinstalled Ps CC 20.1 and still the problem persists. If I launch Ps before I send an image from Br everything seems fine. This is my workaround until the issue is fixed.

My two cents worth,
Peter

That's worth to be differentiated, as what I noticed Adobe fixes one bug at time, without looking for similar issues until reported as well.

I just did some testing on my Win 7 Pro 64 bit system. I am running the latest versions of Lr (8.0), Ps (20.0.1), ACR (11), and Br (9.0.1.216 x64). Tried opening both CR2 (Canon RAW), and PSD files from Lr and Br in Ps with Ps not running. I experience the same issues reported above with Ps when opening these files from Lr; they cannot be edited with many options greyed out. However, when performing the same experiment opening files from Br in Ps, they open as expected in Ps and can be edited as expected. The PSD files open directly in Ps, the CR2 files open in ACR within Ps. If Ps is running already when I perform these experiments there are no issues.

To reiterate, I don't use Lightroom, but I still experience the problem between Bridge CC 2019 and Photoshop CC 2019. To characterize the issue a little more...

I open Br CC 2019 but Ps is not running. I open a .NEF file which causes Br to launch ACR 11.0 and then I Open Image from ACR which launches Ps CC 2019 and the menus are grayed out.

But if ... I open Br CC 2019 and Ps is not running. I then open a .NEF file with open with > and choose Adobe Photoshop CC 2019 (default), again ACR 11.0 launches. I then open from ACR and Ps CC 2019 launches and this time the menus are fine.

Also if I launch Ps CC 2019 before I open from ACR then the menus are fine.

I guess, thinking about it as I write this (and the morning coffee settles in), when I have Br open with... using Ps, this first launches Ps in order to open ACR from Ps, which in turn is maybe not so different from me launching Ps first.

Where are all regression tests gone, long time passing ?
Where are all regression tests gone, long time ago ?
Where are all regression tests gone ?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Bug while exporting picture from LR to PS with Ctrl+E.

When exporting a picture from LR classic CC (version 8) to PS (buid 20.0.1) the menu items in PS  stay disabled (like there is no picture open). When I first open PS (no file open) and then exporting the picture the menu items are able.

When this issue is fixed, how can we find out?  Does Adobe have an official notification process?  Tech support says the integration issue between LR and PS 20.0.1  is a know issue.  They apparently keep pushing the defective version.  I've gone back to 20.0 and don't want to upgrade until this issue is fixed.

What you are asking for can't be answered here.
Doesn't matter a lick the cause or if someone who isn't replying here inside Adobe has isolated the cause and will not tell you one way or the other.
When the issue is fixed, it will be released.

If you knew why, you could tell Adobe and it'd be fixed straight away. Once the real cause is known, you're usually 90% done fixing a programming bug.

Disable the start up page in photoshop or open photoshop first '' before  '' opening lightroom & transferring an image

Both work & it gets rid of that very inconvenient face page in the new Ps
