Photoshop: Need align commands to work with astrophotography images

I am doing a lot of astro photography. But stacking a lot of images in Photoshop is difficult. First of all, the Edit ->Auto Align images does work well on stacking regular photos, but it does not work properly (or not at all) with night sky with stars. one has to align every image layer manually. I would like that Auto Align also work with night sky. Secoundly, when one is stacking multiple images, there is a sequence of opacity to each layer. First one has opacity of 50%, then 33%, 25%, 20%, 17% and so on. There should be a script or an action that does this for up to 100 layers, or at least 50. This would attract a lot of astronomers to buy Photoshop. The program should have an "astro photo mode", that put all opened images as layers in one image, that could align all the images of star-skies perfectly on top of each other without problems, and finally set the right amount of opacity for each layer.
A typical astro photo is about 20-60 single images. And doing the initial work is alone often an hour of manual labour, before one can start the real work with PP

Ok, found the script for making all open files into layers in one file, and aligning them. But it still does not work for astro photography.

There is a stacking script and image stack feature in Photoshop Extended already.
It has been used extensively by astronomers since it was added several years ago.

But yes, the alignment is edge based, and astro photos don't have edges. I've asked the team responsible for the alignment code to make it work with astro images, but haven't seen any progress yet.

Thanks for answers. Looks like we are just one step away from a complete astro workflow.

Any progress on this? Auto-align still does not work for astronomical images as of CC 2014. Thanks!
