Elements: Magic Mouse too sensitive

Hi I have an iMAC (with Magic Mouse) running Lion with Photoshop elements 10. When trying to scroll or select an image in Organiser the slightest touch on the mouse sends the images flying up of down the screen and is virtually uncontrollable. How can this be resolved please?

Please calibrate your mouse in the system preferences > Mouse.of iMac.
Adjust scrolling and tracking bars so that you get comfortable results

Hi Richard,

The mouse worked perfectly fine at our end. I am not sure why it is not working correctly at your end.

Can you attach the screenshot of your mouse settings? We can try with your mouse settings.

Also, does it work fine with a USB connected mouse?

Below you'll see 'Reply to This Topic (some HTML allowed)' text box. A button 'Add Image' is present at the bottom right corner of this text box.

You can attach the image using that button.

No problem Richard.
I'll try the settings at my end and will inform you with my findings.

I tired in iPhoto. The scrolling is same as in Organizer for the settings that you provided.

Hi Ankur, thanks for your reply. When I try iPhoto, images scroll up smoothly and in a controlled way with the images gradually appearing from off the screen, but when I try in Elements they jump from one row to the next often jumping several rows and when I try to be extra careful (slow) moving my finger over the mouse the images sometimes fail to move at all. I have included the mouse setting from Universal Access for you to see as well.

Okay.. now I see the issue.
In Organizer, the scrolling occurs with a jerk. It happens because we load the full media strip everytime.

I'll forward the issue to the team.
Thanks for reporting.

It's not just that it just scrolls with a jerk, I could cope with that if it was controllable. I have Element 7 on an old laptop and that scrolls a row at a time (using the pad) but I can scroll one row if I choose. Also the scroll bar moves the images smoothly on '7' but they are still quite jerky in the iMAC with '10'
The problem is that it is very erratic, sometimes jumping many rows at a time even when I am not even intending to scroll but just to click on an image. It is the unpredictability of it that is frustrating.
You said previously that you tried iPhoto and that the scrolling was the same - I have never had the images fly up or down the screen in iPhoto or jump a row at a time.

I have the same issue on PSE 10, it is indeed frustrating. Did you ever get it resolved?

Hi David - no I didn't, I have similar but not as drastic problems with other non-apple software, e.g. Excel spreadsheets can sometimes jump hundreds of lines. I have desensitised the mouse a little which helps but certainly does not cure it. Also the 'navigator' scroll bar in Photoshop Editor causes the image to give very erratic magnification. I expect the answer will lie in Element 11!

Same issue with Elements 10 organizer using magic mouse on macbook air.

After completing the Lynda.com course for Elements I am quite disappointed that this issue exists. Makes the organizer worthless.

Yep, unfortunately Apple does not "play nice" with any non-Apple software provider. Though I'm a long time PC/Elements user, I gave up on PSE about 10 months ago due to the scrolling issue. As you say, the program is essentially worthless. Knowing what I know now, I would never have switched to Mac a year ago. I've gotten used to iPhoto, and it is an ok program. But I've lost 10+ years of tags on over 60,000 pictures compiled in Elements. They were lost in the translation from Elements to iPhoto.

OUCH...... maybe someday everyone will play nice! Tough job not wasting time with incompatibility issues when they sneak up on you due to hardware......

You have put my little issue into perspective though :) May I repeat OUCH :)

Adobe Elements 11 Organizer has the same issue. Turn scrolling off is the only way I have found to stop it jumping pages at a time from a slight touch of the mouse. That is not really an option though. Turning all the sensitivities to the lowest and turning inertia off did not help.

I agree it's not good enough and there does not seem to be any justification for it, especially as I have just downloaded a trial version of Adobe Lightroom 5 and that scrolls perfectly smoothly with complete control.

Problem persists in Elements 12. Organiser almost unusable and therefore the other features are wasted.

thanks for the update. I've stopped using elements (2 years now) altogether and won't consider until they get this fixed

I assume Adobe are not developing the Organiser function for Mac any more as it is not sold on the Mac App store version of Elements. I agree very poor service. I would have thought that they would at least allow an upgrade price for Lightroom purchase as that is the only solution. I suspect most people will just move to iPhoto or whatever replaces it.

The only solution is to use a conventional mouse without scrolling option !

I think they assume you will use iPhoto for organising and Elements only as an editor which is a shame. Will be interesting to see what Apple do next year with the Photos app.

When i am organizing my images I use a conventional Mac mouse with a small turning wheel. I put the velocity of scrolling as low as possible and allow only for vertical scrolling. Then everything works fine.

Using iMac and elements 10 organiser it's almost impossible to control images
from jerking up and down when transferring from catalog to albums.

Will buy conventional mouse and try again

Hi Karan, if you expect a valid response from Adobe I think you will be waiting a long time. Sorry for being so negative but I think all the previous posts confirm that.
