Photoshop: Option/Alt Key in Clone Tool is sticking to the image

I'm in Photoshop CS6. When I use the clone tool - or the healing tool for that matter - the image 'sticks' to the cursor after I've clicked the Mac options key to select the area I want to clone from. Nothing I try seems to resolve this. Back in CS5 i have no problems with this at all. I'd call myself an advanced beginner, but I can't work out whether I've set something or clicked something. Preferences seem all in order. I've reset the tool preferences several timees. I;ve resorted to going back to CS5 to clone stamp and heal things. Spot healing is working fine, by the way...

The second question is therefore this: I'd like to try uninstalling and reinstalling, but I'm not sure how this works with my Creative Cloud subscription... is there a best procedure for doing this to avoid losing my two downloads per app since the second download is not going to another machine, it's going back onto the Mac?

I'm running a MacBook Pro on the latest Lion update. CS6 is running very well otherwise - no hanging that others have reported. Am I doing something very stupid and have I missed something very obvious?

Look at the clone stamp tool options and the clone source palette options.
You turned on the preview and forgot about it.
