I just installed the new Mac OS and now I cannot save to my backup on my external hard drive. I have tried downloading the config.lua file as suggested in earlier posts and checked my permission was to read and write...but still cannot save to my external drive that has 3TB free space. Any help?

You need to make sure that Lightroom has permissions to read and write to external volumes. That is a new option in Catalina in the System Preferences.

Thank you Johan for your quick reply. I added Lightroom to the Full Disk Access under the Privacy Tab on the Security & Privacy section in the System Preferences and checked that I had read/write provision for the external hard drive...but still cannot save to the external drive. Perhaps still waiting for Apple to update?

Did you make sure permissions were applied to contained files also?

Hello Suzanne,
Thank you for thinking of this, I just tried to change the permission of the folder and I get an error message saying I don't have permission to change the file, but for my Mac profile it is showing read and write permission.

Thank you for that information. I had a problem with locked files when trying to move photographs in LR. That url was very helpful.

Thanks everyone...I found the issue. As my external drive is a Seagate drive, it needed a Paragon Driver to allow me to write to the disk. I have installed this and no problem. Maybe this driver was uninstalled in the recent Catlina update. Problem solved:)

That has nothing to do with the drive being from Seagate, but the fact that it comes formatted in NTSC and you did not change the formatting. You could have formatted it yourself and saved the money for the Paragon drivers, unless you want to use this drive on both a Mac and a PC.

Thanks Johan, it was interesting as I have successfully been saving and using this external drive as is without any issues for the last two years. The issue only seemed to arise when I installed the Catalina OS system two days ago. I am not sure why but anyways it is fixed now. The Paragon drivers were free to install and all is fine now. Thanks for your help.
