When I try to update for Lightroom 5.5 I only seem to get access to Version 5.4 (build 955652). It seems to apply the same update over and over yet always tells me when I look for an update, that I need to update.

It also always tries to indicates a need to repair as part of the update process.

Is your LR serial-number-licensed or cloud-licensed?

What steps are you doing, in more detail?

It is cloud licensed. I've tried looking at the processes running in the task manager, but didn't see anything that I could recognize that would interfere, but I may have trouble with my ignorance from being out of touch with the new operating systems. The OS is Win 7 64bit

So you have the PS+LR Photographer's Bundle, which is what I have, or is there some other LR-CC subscription type?

I am on Win 8.1-64 and just saw an update to the Cloud app when I opened it, so I'm installing that. It is version 1.7.1.418.

You may want to uninstall LR via Control Panel, then Open and Sign Out of the CC Desktop app via the Gear / General / Account area, then reboot, then see if the CC Desktop will give you LR 5.5 to install as new.

Is it possible that you have a previous version of LR installed besides LR 5.4, and that is confusing things? To check this, uninstall any LR's you see in Control panel looking alphabetically in Adobe, Lightroom and Photoshop areas of the installed programs list.

There was a problem after people installed LR 5.5 in that it wouldn't start and the solution was to clear the SLCache folder with deleting the folder, itself, so you might try that if nothing else is working:

It's possible that the CC app is corrupted and you'll have to uninstall everything and use CC Cleaner to clear out things, and then reinstall, but that'll likely wipe out some preferences and custom settings if you have lots of those you feel are important:

To close out this topic: I deactivated LR from PS and then uninstalled LR. I then went into CC cloud and reinstalled LR. As a result I got to version 5.5. I seem to have so issues with the reinstall being accepted as a registered version but hope that with catch up with itself after a few uses. I still can't access Nikon D810 RAW files, but also hope that will change soon.

What do you mean when you say you deactivated LR from PS? Do you mean you signed out of Creative Cloud using Help / Sign Out...?

What "some issues" are you having with LR 5.5 being registered? Is it saying it is a trial version even though you're logged into the CC? If it doesn't resolve with a sign-out/sign-in or reboot of your computer, I doubt waiting longer will help.

Have you purchased the Photographer's Bundle that includes both PS and LR, or just a single app license for PS-CC, which costs twice as much and does not include LR?

The Nikon D810 files will be accessible in LR 5.6 or if you use the DNG Converter 8.6 RC to convert them to DNGs, the DNGs will be accessible in older versions of LR, but only if they are full-res NEFs not the new 9MP Small Raw NEFs that is not supported by the beta DNGC 6.8 RC.

I signed out using CC.

LR is saying that it is a trial version and wants me to sign in. I installed it after logging into the Adobe account which seemed to recognize me and all of my profile info was there.

I do pay monthly for the Photographer's Bundle of PS and LR.

I haven't rebooted the PC since the installation so tomorrow may give me more information. I finished the day drying out my shelter from doing a very wet art show.

I have converted a few files and shoot everything at full-res. I doubt that I'll use the new small RAW.

What happens if you sign in with LR after it asks, or are you not able to do that? There maybe be a Help / Sign In menu item that lets you sign in. I would expect that once you sign in the first time, something is recorded on your system and it'll automatically sign in by itself instead of asking each time.

Correction: the Sign-In / Sign-Out area is not under Help but accessed by clicking on the identity plate area at top-left. It should say things about Syncing as well as Signing on/off and some settings, if it is the CC version of LR.

I rebooted this AM and everything seems to work just fine. I had a feeling that would happen and wasn't worried about it. Do you have any idea how long it will be until LR 5.6 comes out?

The ACR 8.6 Release Candidate (beta) which corresponds to the camera support that will be in LR 8.6 expires at the end of August, so before then, I'd imagine. If I remember correctly the final release is usually about 4-6 weeks after the RC depending on how much extra work there is in LR, which with Mobile can be more than usual.
