PC config: Windows 7 64 bit / i7 2600 / 8 GB Ram / Discrete Video card.
I have the latest QuickTime installed and it works normally.
My old LR 3.6 installation on same machine was completely normal and bug free.
No other issues.

After a clean install of LR 4.0 all photo handling is normal (JPG and various RAW formats)

Video files:
MOV & AVI from various cameras, MTS from Panasonic, are accepted by LR 4 and imported normally.

When I try to play back the same files all works normally for the first 4-6 playbacks after which the playback freezes.

The rest of LR 4 still work normally.

All of the video files play without any issues in VLC player and LR 3.6 handled them without any problems.

Untill the LR 4 video component freezes it handles all and any of the video formats without any issues.

The only way to resume is to Exit LR 4, close dynamiclinkmediaserver.exe in Task Manager as described in and then reboot LR 4.

The cycle then repeat itself:

(LR 4 Video handles 4-6 video files normally before it freezes / Close LR 4 / Task Manager / restart LR 4)

There is clarely a problem in the Video component of LR 4 when run on a Win 7 64 bit computer.

I hope Adobe will address this issue as the Video component is perhaps the most important developments of LR 4

Can you please add your email address to your profile, so I can contact you directly? It would help us if we could get your video clip.

have this problem too, on two different Macs. I get 700%+ CPU utilization after scanning through 5 or 10 videos or so, and eventually have to kill dynamiclinkmediaserver and restart Lightroom. After browsing videos a little more, it happens again, every time. These are both nearly new fully configured Macs (1 iMac and on Macbook Pro) with 32GB and 16GB RAM respectively.

I have googled for this problem, and see that it occurs both on Windows and the Mac, and goes back to Lightroom 4. I have been trying to get Adobe's attention on it, but after hours on chat and the phone, I have gotten nowhere.
