Lightroom: Develop Presets not always taking effect in LR4

I've had this problem since LR 4.0 and noticed it still does it in LR 4.2.

NOTE: this problem is intermittent (depends on the timing of what I do).

STEPS to reproduce (about 80% success rate at reproducing everything):
open one image in Develop module
click on a preset on the left
navigate to the next image (right arrow)
while the "loading ..." is still displayed, click on the same preset on the left
it would highlight the preset, but never apply it to the image
until you change a slider and then re-click that preset

Process Version issue perhaps?

Try 1st changing to common process version (as required by preset), then apply preset. - better?

I am using the current LR4 process version, PV2012.

This happens on both Windows 7 x64 machines with 8+GB RAM. One of them has a new catalog and preferences file; yet the problem still happens. It could be a simple preset that changes exposure to +0.50. It would work on the first image, but not the second one.

Upon further consideration, it sounds like a different problem.

But for the record, a preset with 2010 exposure will not change the exposure of a 2012 photo, since it's treated as a different setting. But this is not timing dependent.

I think what's happening in this case is: a preset is only applied when the image is ready, and the preset is not already selected. But if clicked too soon, the preset becomes selected without ever being applied. So, I agree this should be considered a bug...
