My computer continually shuts down while in LR4. It doesn't matter which module I'm in - it even does it while viewing images. I don't have this problem with LR3.6 or CS6 beta.
System: Intel dual core i3, 2.4 GHz, 64 bit, 4 GB RAM.
Browser: Firefox 10

What OS version?

And what does the crash report say? (especially the name of the faulting module)

Windows 7. There is no crash report. My computer just totally shuts down.

If your whole computer shuts down, then that is not an application crash: that is a hardware fault, an OS bug, or a low level driver bug.

Usually it means that you have bad RAM, but can also be caused by faulty GPU cards, CPUs, power supplies, motherboards, etc.

Thank you. I reached the same conclusion today when other programs caused a shutdown.
I appreciate your help.

Could be many things, but the first thing I'd be doing is checking for overheating. LR4 drives the CPU very hard, probably harder even than LR3, so you could make sure your fans aren't clogged and are running OK.

If you haven't got a CPU temperature monitor, there are plenty of free ones available. I've used this one before: http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/

Jim, thank you for the tip on the CPU temperature monitor. I downloaded it, and it appears that overheating is the problem. I will definitely be checking my fan, and vents, for dust.
