LR 4.1 and Photoshop CS6: Edit in Photoshop not working

Installed LR 4.1 and Photoshop CS6. When I select Edit in Photoshop, PS launches but the photo doesn't open.

Specifically, the behavior depends on which option I choose:
Edit a Copy with Lightroom Adjustments: PS opens, no photo
Edit a Copy or Edit Original: seems to work OK
Open as Smart Object in Photoshop: photo opens but any attempt to save gives an error:

Error 2: photoshop is undefined
Line: 1
-> photoshop.notifyLightroomDocSaved ('lightroom-2.0', '39BCF4F2-8E18-44C5-94F5-758BBBF83DBA', 'Macintosh HD:Users:gregdem:Pictures:2011:2011-09-18:_MG_6004-Edit.tif');

MacBook Pro running OS X 10.7.4 and I've already tried every combination of uninstalling and reinstalling both Lightroom and Photoshop.

Hmm. Here's what I would try:

Restore Photoshop's prefs: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/usin...

Restart the OS and launch Lightroom 4.1. Retry and see if the problem persists.

Made no difference. As I mentioned, I already went through completely uninstalling and removing both Lightroom and Photoshop as well as deleting every last vestige of preference files. But to make sure, I just tried this as well and the behavior is exactly the same as it was.

Is ACR updated to 7.1? Photoshop opening without a photo would often suggest an ACR error, especially as it's working correctly without applying LR's settings.

Do you have any other of the CS6 suite on there? When you uninstalled, did it wipe the lot?

Next thing to try, if that doesn't do the trick, is to try a clean user account.

Yes - this is fully updated to final LR 4.1 and final ACR 7.1.

In terms of other Adobe apps, I did have other apps at one point but I uninstalled all of them (even Reader) and then deleted all the "Adobe" folders under /Library/Preferences, /Library/Application Support, ~/Library/Preferences, and ~/Library/Application Support. I even ran the CS Cleaner and it reported no CS installations after that point. I then installed LR 4.1, PS CS6, ran the updater to pick up ACR 7.1.

I tried creating a new user account and got the same behavior. Something is definitely borked here because it works fine on my MacBook Air.

VERY frustrating.

There are some cache files around that might be worth clearing too.

FWIW, I'm having problems with InDesign crashing on a completely fresh install, so I do understand your frustrations!

I had something that's not exactly the issue, but a similar frustration. I can edit photos from LR TO PS but after a PS save some photos don't show up in the LR library grid. I do have "stack with original" checked. Here's what I noticed and what I did:

1- With the LR and PS windows open side by side, the photos that don't show up after the save go missing in the LR window when I do the edit-in-Photoshop. For the photos that do show up in the library grid after the PS save, the also stay in the LR window during the edit-in-Photoshop. Hope that's clear.

2- I created a new catalog and imported images. The work fine thru the workflow.

I'm wondering if you should try creating a new catalog in LR and testing on a couple of newly imported photos.

Same file type in both cases Steve? Could there have been a filter turned on, or a custom sort order involved?

Hi Victoria,
In addition to my comment above about the LR window, if I create a virtual copy, I get the response that it was created, but the VC does not show up in the library grid view.

And you're in a folder view? Weird! It sounds like a filter is stuck, but you've obviously ruled that out. Good to hear the clean catalog works out though. If you don't use Publish Services, you could try exporting your working catalog to a clean one, as that often cleans out 'general weirdness'.

Thanks Victoria. Yes, weird. Was trying to bypass the "create a new catalog" solution since this catalog has about 25K images. But if that solves the problem, it will force me to clean it out first :-).

Appreciate the feedback.

Don't do too big a cleanup! The Export as Catalog often cleans up weirdness like this, and the only thing you should lose in that process would be Publish Services settings, if you decide to go down that route.
