Lr 4.0 Print Module prints too dark compared to latest version of LR3. In order to get an acceptable print, I have to increase the Print Brightness slider in the Print Module to a value of about 28. I calibrate my monitor monthly with a Spyder 3 Elite. I manage my printing and color management from the Print Module and have no problems before. I operate a PC using Windows 7 Pro. A number of established pros have complimented my prints made with LR3 and the same print setup.

I upgraded from LR3 to LR4.1 then LR4.2 beta and didn't notice any similar effect. I did notice that upgrading an LR3 developed image to 2012 process in LR4 resulted in some tiny changes due to the new adjustment options. I also noticed in LR4 that when switching from Develop to Print, the preview seemed to alter, sometimes quite markedly. But this suddenly stopped and is stable now in 4.2

None of this may be relevant of course. My own screen and printer are calibrated to each other and maybe you should recalibrate using LR4 IF this problem persists. I don't like the idea of tweaking brightness of the print output at all since I've carefully calibrated everything like you.
