Lightroom: after swapped master/copy with "set copy as master" deleting copy deletes master

I make virtual copy of master and then use "set copy as master" to swap them.

When I then delete the version that is "the new copy" I get the correct dialog "remove selected virtual copy" - but after click "remove" - both virtual copy AND master is removed. I expect the master not to be deleted.

In area, but more of an request for future releases. I'd like the "set copy as master" to be accessible from development module. That is the place in process I often decide which version to keep.
It would also be nice to get that option in the delete dialog, "Would you like to move master to existing virtual copy?".
Or why not just do it - move (keep) the master. Why would I delete master when I still have virtual copies? Do not offer master deletion until last version requested to be deleted.

Maybe there is other use of virtual copies and masters that I do not know of, this is just an "heads up" from my (limited) use.

Is it consistent? Can you reproduce it in a new clean catalog? Does undo work after removing, will it restore the images?

Sorry, I don't have a Mac, cannot test it.

undo works - I get all back.
I guess it is hard to belive that mac/pc would make any difference?

I can try more when I get home.

In a new clean catalog it worked ok using one new imported photo - no problems.

I recorded a movie, not sure if that helps, a bit back & forth and not showing "set copy as master" - just the delete & result.
After "undo" I had problems to delete the copy but after swapping back via "set copy as master" and delete/undo I manged to recover.
I noticed the that raw photo is always there, never removed from disk.

You might have some dirty data in your main catalog that triggers the bug. If it's 100% reproducible with your catalog, the engineers might want to take a look at it.

Hi Sune,

I am also not able to reproduce this problem. When I follow the link for your video, it tells me "The video you have requested is not available."

hmm, ran into another bug in Firefox... Using Safari I finally managed to upload the film.
I am afraid the film will not help much, unless you see that I am out in the blue...

Hi Sune,

I am able to see the video now, and I see the problem that you're talking about. Unfortunately, I'm still unable to reproduce the problem myself, and I think I need more context than your video provides. With such a small view of just a little portion of the filmstrip, I can't see what menu items you're selecting, what dialog boxes come up, what source you have selected, what filters you might have applied, etc. If you were to record a video of the entire screen, that might help.

There is some free screen capture software you can use called Jing, you can download it here: http://www.techsmith.com/jing.html Then you can upload the results to Dropbox or YouSendIt and post a link here, or I can give you instructions for FTPing the file to me directly at Adobe.

You mentioned that when you tried it in a new catalog, everything worked as expected. Maybe if you throw out your preferences files, everything will behave on your main catalog as well? This page describes where the preference files are: http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/p.... It would also probably be worth optimizing your catalog to see if that makes a difference (go to the File menu and choose "Optimize Catalog).

Thanks,
Ben

Thanks!
New snapshot using jing (gave swf format)

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BzBby...

I optimize at every close of LR together with backup, anyway I did it manually too and it made no difference.

As you see swapping back, setting the original to master and then deleting the copy works.

I tried a new scenario:
I made a virtual copy, I set it to master and then closed LR together with backup and optimize. Opened up LR again, deleted the copy (former master) and same fault.
And again, undo, set virtual to master (back to original master), delete copy - OK.

I also did following, not sure if that was your (full suggestion):

mv com.Adobe.Common\ LR4.plist com.Adobe.Common\ LR4.plist.ORG
ls com.Adobe.Common\ LR4.plist
ls: com.Adobe.Common LR4.plist: No such file or directory
pwd
/Users/eralalu/Library/Preferences

No difference.

Very "interesting" phenomena. I guess it must be some conflict/corruption in the database. I have not seen any problems in any other areas though.

Q: Can I open up the same database using my old installation, LR 3.6, without causing disaster. Can I then try the same scenario? Maybe interesting if the problem came with LR4. It is not a proof if it fails since those images are imported by LR4 and the fault can be introduced at that point. But if it works it shows that the problem is within LR4 itself.
