Lightroom 6: New folder/files are not registered in catalog

Background: I recently upgraded LR4 to LR6 desktop and moved to a WIN10 machine. I physically moved the disks to the new machine. My photos and catalog are on separate disks. I checked LR4 on the WIN10 machine before doing the upgrade. The upgrade went fine. When I import new photos into LR6 from an SD card reader (copy and add to catalog) – a folder is created on disk and the files are copied to the new folder. The new folder is shown in the folder browser. When I import I typically tag every photo. When I exit LR - I do a catalog check and backup. Problem: When I re-launch LR6 the recently imported folder/files aren’t shown in the file browser. If I import the same photos again, this time from disk, into the same folder (the browser on the import menu does show the folder that was created by the first import), this time the folder/files seem to register in the catalog. Window obliges the file copy and creates a second set of files with names fileName-2. Interestingly the tags and any edits that I did during the initial import are already present. Apparently tags/edits are in the catalog, but the catalog isn't registering, or isn't displaying, the new folder/file names.WIN10 Version: 10.0.10586 Build 10586

Here's a follow up re: my catalog issue.  I might have found the problem.  The solution may benefit others.  My workflow included inserting a card into an SD card reader, allowing MS AutoPlay to launch LR.  I would import the photos from there. While debugging - I noticed the old LR4 splash screen.  That couldn't be good.  LR4 was importing the photos, but the catalog had been upgraded for LR6.  So, I uninstalled LR4 from my PC (the Autoplay option disappeared too).  Now New folders are being created and they're persistent when I exit/re-start LR.  LR6 still identifies all of the photos on the SD, including the photos that I'd already imported, as new.  That's OK, all of the photos are safely on disk and they're in the catalog.  From here on in I think things will be correct.  As a side note: I couldn't add LR6 to AutoPlay.  I spent an hour with a Microsoft tech trying to add LR6 to AutoPlay.  We were not successful.  I saw a related thread/issue in this forum.  P.S. I just downloaded LR version 6.7.  Apparently it's not possible with LR6.
