My photos are arranged in too many folders. It would be great if LR could rearrange the folder structure, I would prefer / or /

The Folder's panel (in conjunction with Grid View) allow you to drag and drop images between folders or drag folders in and out of other folders. What else do you need?

My pictures are currently organized in 608 folders, plus some subfolders beneath that... Reorganizing this using drag'n drop will take some time..

So you would prefer Magic? to Drag and Drop. How else would you do it?

Yes, it is going to take some time.

I'm sorry. I should have been more specific.

What I'd like is to reorganize all my existing photos in the same way that the file importer does.

Magic recipe:
For all pictures; Based on picture-taken date, move the picture into the best fitting folder. If the folder does not exist yet, create it.

(As a developer, I'm in awe of what the adobe developers can do, I don't think they'll agree magic is needed to solve this "problem"... ;))

So the words you left out in your original post was "rearrange 'by date'"
That is a different story and requires less magic.

For now, you will have to do it like I did six years ago: drag and drop... (and I had way more than 600 folders)

Sorry, I thought rearrange meant pretty much the same as reorganise.. english is not my first language.

Anyway, I know it can't be done with LR5, atleast I've googled enough to convince myself.. But I thought this was a place to suggest new features to the LR dev team. If it isn't, is there some other site I may do that?

I'd much rather wait for LR6 to do this for me, than to do it this manually. My current workaround is to use the Metadata library filter instead of folders in the navigator. This does not help me browse the pictures on XBMC on my tv though.... :(

No worries. If you don't want to do it now, and I wouldn't hold my breath for LR 6 being able to... the Metadata filter is where I would send you anyway.

Or, perhaps build at least some year-based smart collections to speed up your work...

einaren,

I don't know what you mean by "I would prefer / or /", but +1 vote for restructuring options in Lightroom.

Really, if Adobe just adds a function or two to SDK for moving/renaming, that would do it.
