LR5.3 fights Canon 'Camera Window' when shooting 'Tethered', crashing LR5.3!?!

Using OSX 10.6.8, Lightroom 4 "Watched Folder" worked perfectly in conjunction with Canon EOS Utility Camera Window. Canon software controlled the camera functions, while LR4 imported the images as I shot.

Now with OSX 10.7 Lion shooting in LR5.3, LR and Canon software seem to be fighting 'behind the scenes' over control of the camera, causing LR5.3 to crash constantly during the shoot. Tethering will function fine for a while, then image import will bog down to a crawl, and crash.

It seems now that LR has added its own 'camera control' feature, it has created a major tethering conflict where there was none before. And since the LR camera control does not allow any useful features such as 'Live View on/off', changing ISO, f/stop, shutter speed or ANYTHING... is there any way to disable LR's useless 'shoot button' and revert back to simply a 'Watched Folder'?
