Lightroom: LR 4 Settings/sync not applied to all selected images

LR4 final seems to have a very annoying bug.

When I select a number of images (in the film strip) and either

1) paste settings that I've previously copied from another image
or
2) sync settings from one image to the rest

... the settings are not applied to all the selected images. The settings are only applied to a seemingly random subset of the selected images.

I'm going to try to pin down the exact circumstances that make this occur.

The first time this occured I was trying to change the lens profile of 500+ images taken with my Tokina 11-16mm, from a custom lens profile to the new official profile included in LR4.

Whatever I tried it didn't apply the new setting to all selected photos: Copy from one -> paste to all, set one photo -> sync to all, select all -> auto sync.

The second time I noticed this bug I was applying the new process version 2012 and a few basic settings to ~120 images. I noticed that some of the selected images still had the old PV and old settings after pasting.

Naturally, now that I'm trying to reproduce the bug everything is working perfectly ;)

The thread that was posted just after yours says a Develop Preset is not applied if the image has not fully loaded--a history-state is created but the settings aren't applied, otherwise.

On the thumbnail bar, not fully loaded, might mean the thumbnails still has three dots, so if you delete the previews for a set of images and try your test right away, perhaps that would yield some skipped images.

SOLUTION

OMG, I have had this problem for months and NO ONE has been able to help.
I can report that I have finally found a fix.

To FIX THE PROBLEM of lightroom not syncing changes across multiple images is to Purge the Cache.
Go to Edit, Preferences. Under the Camera Raw Cache Settings, click the Purge Cache button.

Now we need to ask Adobe to fix this in future updates so that Cache can be 'purged' automatically.

Feel free to send me some money via paypal for beer to robholding at hotmail.com ;o)

It seems there are a lot of problems logged with similar symptoms, I'll be interested to see if Rob Holding's solution also works in some of the other cases.
