Lightroom: LR4.3 RC refuses to open

I'm getting regular occurences when LR4.3 RC refuses to open either through the shortcut or via the programme folder. This is with a Win 7 64bit machine with 16gb RAM
I'm having to restart the machine after which it will then start from either source.
Is anyone else seeing this or have any ideas how to resolve the issue?

What's the exact behavior? Do you get an error? Does it hang/freeze somewhere in the launch process?

This can happen if the lightroom.exe process has not shut down, yet.

Next time LR won't start, check the Processes tab of Task Manager and see if it is still running. If so, then that would be the thing to try to understand.

It might also be that LR has been set to auto-open you it detects a new USB device attached, and than hangs, then, without your noticing. I have issues when my Samsung Galaxy S phone is plugged into my USB, charging, even if it isn't set to USB-mass-storage mode, so you might also check what other devices you have plugged in.

Thanks for responding.

Jeffrey, on my first opening from the desktop shortcut it opens normally and sometimes for a few subsequent occasions too but it then plays dumb.
I click on the icon and the little circle symbol starts to rotate as if its about to load, then it stops and nothing happens (same if I double click or press "open".
If I go into my All Programmes list and try to open it from there the same thing happens.
If I then Restart it goes back to its original state and will open from either the desktop shortcut or the AllProgammes list.

Steve, I'll check it out when I get a moment, I've changed nothing in the settings from LR4.2 which didn't exhibit this behaviour and I've not seen anything similar in any of the prior RCs which I always upload

Besides adding a few new cameras, Adobe is tweaking things in each release to make things work faster, but sometimes they trade one resource for another or inavertently introduce a bug, which can cause unexpected slowness or something to just not work.

If you can't see the LR process in Task Manager the next time it doesn't start up, try holding down the Alt key while LR is starting and see if you at least get as far as it asking what catalog to use or not, in case there is a problem with the catalog or a USB-attached device.

thanks again, I think I may have sorted the problem by optimizing my catalog. So far this morning I haven't seen the problem and it seems to be loading much quicker.
I'll monitor the situation for a couple of days before declaring the problem to be solved though, just to be on the safe side
