LR41: Convert Fuji RAF to DNG Double Size Question

Lightroom 4.1

Why are the files imported and converted to DNG from my Fuji X-Pro-1 twice the size of the original RAF files?

If I look directly at the memory card the RAF files are around 20-25mb each. The same DNG files after import are more than 50mb each.

I use a Kingston memory card reader but that shouldn't matter.

I follow the exact same process as I do for my Canon 5D3 but I don't see the DNG's being twice the size there.

Any idea?

If by "exact same process" you mean that you do or don't embed the original raw file into the DNG and that you compute the same size previews at the same quality level and the same DNG-compatibility version, then another thing is the compression of the raw data, itself, which Adobe may not do the same as Fuji. The XPro1 is newly supported and the raw format is different so it took Adobe an extra cycle or two to support it, and perhaps the way the data is stored by the camera is different than the normal compression Adobe uses, where Fuji has done something new and Adobe still uses their normal compression to keep things backwards compatible.

Thanks Steve, I can confirm that the checkbox in front of Embed Original Raw File is _not_ checked.
