Lightroom: Import Dialogue Not Opening (Win XP)

I am running LR3 updated to 3.5. I have used this program for several years with no problems. Nearly a month a go, the import dialogue ceased to appear when I wanted to add to the catalog. I tried unistalling and reinstalling the software, but it still doesn't work. I called Adobe support and they were not helpful. I posted on the LR forum and have received no input. This is getting frustrating!!!!!! I am running Windows XP.

So, when you click this button:

You don't see the Import dialog:

Or the the reduced options Import dialog?:

I have been running LR for several years and have nearly 6,000 images in the catalog. All of a sudden, the import dialogue does not open. A task bar opens in the upper left under the identity plate, but the software essentially freezes and I need to cancel the task bar to use LR. This occurs whether I click the import button or whether I click on "import photos" in the file menu.

Michael,

I have seen this before with a corrupt preferences file.

The preferences file is Lightroom 3 Preferences.agprefs, located in Documents and Settings/[user name]/Application Data/Adobe/Lightroom/Preferences.

With Lightroom closed, rename this file to Lightroom 3 Preferences-old.agprefs and Lightroom will attempt to rebuild the preferences when it is launched. Then attempt to import.

If this doesn't work, you can restore your old preference file.

The next step would be to create a blank catalog and see if it exhibits the same behavior when invoking Import.
