The crash during import might be related to a device conflict. Before importing, try unplugging any devices you may have connected to the computer, such as cell phone, mp3 player, bluetooth, thumb drives, etc. Once all those types of devices are disconnected, try importing. You can gradually re-connect devices until you determine which one is posing a conflict. If you are able to narrow it down to a specific device, please post back - I'd like to know if there is a conflict.
The crash in develop is likely not related to the import crash. If you could get a crash dump, that would be helpful in troubleshooting. Post back if you're able to get a crash dump, and I'll contact you offline for a location to send the dump file.
