Lightroom Mobile: Moving synced files

I have several collections on my desktop version of LR CC that I sync with Lighroom Mobile. Nearly every one of these photos was taken with a camera (not a mobile device) and imported via CF card to Lightroom. I then created the collections on my desktop computer and added the photos from the folder to the collection, which I marked to sync with LR Mobile. Recently I noticed that Lightroom (on Desktop) had created a folder called "All Synced Photos," and it appears that the catalog originals of the photos in the collection got moved from the LR folder where I store them this new folder.

Three questions:

1. I didn't want the original images to be moved; is this from some setting I overlooked or is it a bug?

2.  Once I discovered this issue, I moved the files (within Lightroom) back to their original folders. Will they stay there now?

3.  How can I prevent this from happening again. For what it's worth, I have now turned off auto-uploading from my phone and iPad if it makes a difference.

All Synced Photos in the Catalog panel is just a special collection - it hasn't moved any photos on the hard drive.

Yet it appeared when I check the catalog folders, the photos weren't where I had originally imported them. And when I used LR to move from the folder pointed to by All Synced Folders where they resided, only a few files gave a message that they already were in the folder where I wanted to move them. LR moved the rest. I watched the numbers change in the "from" and "to" folders, and I assume if the files were already there, LR would have refused to put them there a second time.

Ok, let's start from the top... tell me your workflow?

Exactly where did you think the photos should be... and where do you think they are now?  Let's be specific about folder locations in the Folders panel, since the All Synced Photos collection in the Catalog panel is just a collection and doesn't affect their hard drive location.

Work flow is all photos are imported into in subfolders under LR Photos, e.g., LR Photos>2016>July 2016; that is every photo goes into folder by year and month nested as shown above. Imported via card reader and copied as DNG. I then make specific collections and drag photos to the collection folder; those folders are synced with LR Mobile. Some collections are just from one folder; some are from more than one. I also use LR Mobile to take photos and until last night I had auto-upload turned on. In preferences, on LR Desktop,  I had specified a folder for those photos to be uploaded to.

I am certain that when I checked some of the folders (not the collection folders, but the catalog folders) some files I originally imported there were not there, but were in the folder to which mobile uploads had been directed to. But I haven't moved all files out of that folder yet, so I will double check catalog folders to see if this is all a big false alarm. Thanks for being patient.

One more thing. I just went to the folder where uploads go to live. One of the pictures there that I haven't moved, taken in July 2009,--well before I started using Lightroom and well before Lightroom Mobile came out-- is not in my July 2009 folder. Also I then went to All photos in the Library module then to Library>Find and put in the file name for a search term. The file was only located by the find feature in the upload folder, not in any other folder in the catalog, let alone the the July 2009 folder where I thought it should be. So I don't think I'm crazy.

Don't worry, I wouldn't suggest you're crazy either. It could well be a bug, but I'd have expected to hear other reports. Which OS are you using?

Next time you see the issue, make a note of the before/after folder paths so we can track it down.

I am using MacOS Sierra.

One more thing,  maybe a clue. I noted a few days ago (before I found this problem) that LR Mobile on my iPad showed it was uploading a whole bunch of photos. I'm not sure when it started, when I noticed it, it said it was in the process of uploading about 800 photos. Since I came in the middle, I'm  not sure what the full amount was. I have more than that in my collections, but much fewer in terms of photos actually taken with the iPad since I rarely use its camera. Perhaps LR Mobile was uploading--for some reason--all of my collections and once it did that, LR on desktop put the originals in the folder where uploads go and moved them from the original catalog folders?

All of the uploaded photos would show in the All Synced Photos collection in the Catalog panel, and the collections would have a double ended arrow next to them. That still wouldn't move the original photos though, so we're not closer I'm afraid!

What puzzles me is why it would upload pictures I did not take with the iPad from the iPad. And unless I have missed a setting, the collections on the iPad are not the raw files, but just previews anyway. It is a puzzle. I do think I have my catalog back in order, so fingers crossed. Thanks for your time and help.

If you move the FOLDERS on the HARD DRIVE? does that take the MOBILE SYNC OFF? by default? because I am trying to figure out why I placed files for my clients to download, and then suddenly a few days later after they have downloaded them ....my gallery says 0
And some galleries are now showing 0 when I didn't take them out of LIGHTROOM

I am confused because I am not sure if I am using LIGHTROOM CLASSIC or LIGHTROOM CC
IT says CC I can't find CLASSIC anywhere not even on the coke can!
So this LIGHTROOM conundrum is very perplexing.

Does anyone have any insight about LIGHTROOM CC - LIGHTROOM MOBILE SYNC COLLECTIONS and what if you change the folder of the original file to a different name?

Thank you
I was looking for a SYNCRONIZE right click in the LIGHTROOM MOBILE AREA...and it doesn't have one.....so why are all my GALLERIES going away?

No, not unless you then synchronize the folder (which removes all the photos then marked as missing and adds them as fresh photos).

If you're talking moving folders, you're either using Lightroom Classic 7.0, or Lightroom CC 2015, which is the version that preceded it (that we've been using the last 2 1/2 years). You can double check by going to Help menu > System Info and it'll tell you.

We might need to understand your workflow better to figure out what's going wrong.
