Ok, before I begin my rant, here's my spec sheet...
Mac Pro (Late 2013)

256GB SSD Internal Drive
3x 512GB SSD Samsung Eternal Drives (non-RAID)
I wanted to make sure it is already established that I am operating far beyond the "minimum system requirements". With these kinds of numbers, I should be able to manage the 3DFX for a motion feature film and not really skip a beat. I am a professional photographer and I shoot with full frame and medium format camera systems. Honestly, that is moot because I am seeing that bloody skinny wheel of death when dealing with the RAW files from both cameras. So what's the solution to this? I dropped more than $5.5k on a new computer setup for the sole purpose of being able to streamline my photo selection/image management and editing process. Then I pay Adobe $30/mo for this software that is supposed to be the pinnacle of graphic processing and performance, and I get THIS piece of garbage. It's seriously got me wanting to chuck this Mac Pro from my loft window, but honestly I only have this issue with Lr CC. Every other software program that I run on this machine runs swimmingly, and Photoshop manages just fine for the most part - but LR crashes on me CONSTANTLY.
Furthermore, I've already gone through all of the "optimizations" that the adobe developers seem to keep referencing. I increased my Camera Raw Cache settings to 15GB (and routinely dump the cache itself), minimized my image previews, turned off my OpenGL settings, and I am STILL getting that beach ball mockingly spinning in my face, maniacally laughing at my seemingly fruitless expenditure on a product that is supposed to be the flagship of creative programs.
I want to know - where is Adobe's commitment to it's customers...?? Why is it that we can dutifully tender our hard earned money for a reliable program that, some of us, actually rely on for DAILY BUSINESS SOLUTIONS, and the best we get is a dinky one-page URL with apparently worthless "optimizations" to make LR CC run more smoothly? I'm sure if we all cancelled our subscriptions, they'd absolutely think of a more efficient and reliable software program to win back our faith - and do so QUICKLY. But because they're the Giant Corporation, it seems as though they really don't seem to think that they need to hold yourselves accountable to their consumers. It honestly seems like Adobe couldn't give 2kb worth of care to the people who actually CREATE THE FOUNDATION that you now stand upon!
Should I have opted for the $12,000 Mac Pro instead of the dinky $4,000 model? Should I sell my audi and build a 32-core super computer that can somehow make up for this blunted excuse for a tool you wonderful people at Adobe call Lightroom? I honestly need to know - what kind of machinery us users need to purchase in order to get this software to run smoothly so we can focus on getting our WORK DONE instead of having to quietly avoid panic attacks brought on by the sheer rage that bubbles up from the depths of our souls when we put this much valuable time and personal resources into a product which is clearly - substandard. Tell me now so that I can look into selling one of my cameras that I need for my life blood just so I can reinvest it into a super-computer, if that's what's needed to get this program to run smoothly. At least then, you're actually setting proper expectations and people know what they're getting into.
Seriously. ANSWERS. ANYONE. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD I JUST NEED ANSWERS. Is there a hard copy of Lightroom I can download somewhere? There has to be a way around this. I'm at my wits' end.

Same, same, same... running latest LightRoom 2015.6 on an i7 670K @ 4.6Ghz, GTX960, 32GB DDR4, 512GB PCIe M.2 SDD.
We keep all work in progress on the M.2 drive including catalogue and the drive is never stressed, infact the system is rarely stressed by Lightroom! We find editing at 1:1 with say the Adjustment Brush (Auto Mask) things become very slow even with acceleration on or off...
Also we find if you have allot of spot corrections Lightroom starts to take a really long time to update and respond/render... We shoot mainly with Sony A7Rii camera's and resolution is only going to increase further in the near future...
Adobe I think you really need to fix things up it's beyond a joke now! Action is needed!

2015.6? Update to 2015.6.1. It helps a lot, but overall it stays being not fast.
Yes sorry we are running 2015.6.1 for the GPU improvements but in honesty we found it still slow with editing and have turned it off again :-(
even with the latest update that does improve preview times we found with acceleration on however when editing say trying the following and see it it's faster or slower with GPU on or off? (Interested to see if you find the same results?
- 1:1 zoom, Adjustment Brush (Auto Mask enabled)...start your selection with mask visible...
We found with GPU ON we could at times have a few seconds delay which is shocking! with GPU OFF it refreshes in under a second! Sigh!
Sooooo very sad all of this! we need it on for faster previews but need it off for editing... overall we have turned it off for now (again)... I wish Adobe could just get things right... I feel like the software after 6 major builds is still a BETA product and getting slower each major build!

With GPU on i have every some (don't know... after 6, 7, 15, ...) Pictures a black Frame. After approx 3 seconds i can work again. Maybe Memory full on the Graphics Card? Haven't checked that and i'm curious what happens with the new GTX1070 tomorrow. I'm one wedding behind my Edits. I'm so glad when the season is over and then hopefully LR starts to be great and fast or Capture One gets more Usability for mass-editing.
Please look at my System-Specs, because that can't happen really with that Computer in 2016!

Look forward to your findings with your new GTX1070 tomorrow... we also have the black screens of Lightroom, flashing, locking up for a few seconds... it seems to happen with both GPU ON and OFF but less so with it OFF it seems but to be honest I have not done allot of testing with it ON recently as I started getting a little tired of testing for Adobe as they don't seem to listen or respond/appreciate all the time we BETA test the software for them (and we pay for the privileged as well! I better not get started on that...)..
Any way the GTX1070 you have if it improves things please share your findings after you have had some time to get some edits under your belt and have a good feel how things are overall... to be honest (and I hope I'm wrong) but I don't expect you will see any difference as even with our GPU lightroom is not stressing it at all it seems but it might be low on memory being a 2GB version from memory but the last time I installed a GPU monitor the card was really not stressed at all with Lightroom it seemed including RAM usage at the time (given that was done before the 2015.6.1 update though)... fingers crossed for you and I hope it does improve things allot!

I'm also pretty sure that nothing will be changed then with the 1070 regarding LR.

What's your monitor resolution?
Note that Adjustment Brush is NOT GPU accelerated (yet), so turning it on won't help there.

Hi victoria, I believe it's IPS @ 2560 x 1600 resolution so nothing fancy... we don't run 4K monitors so it really should be a walk in the park.
Also your point on the Adjustment brush not being accelerated is the scary part with acceleration enabled the tool runs like an absolute dog... it's massively decelerated when hardware acceleration is enabled which should not be the case as it should simply be handled by the CPU at roughly the same speed one would think it should not perform differently..etc.
LR have some major issues and I hope they fix them soon, the last update was the first one in a long time I noticed some improvements which is good but it also broke things again which is not good so overall we have not really moved again but the tradition of LR getting slower and slower seems to still be a constant battle for years they have not addressed still... I hope they do soon as we're starting to reach boiling point at times...

Yes, on less than a retina (5MP) monitor, you're better turning GPU off. You might be interested in the performance series of blog posts I've just started, which at least would make sure you understand what LR's doing behind the scenes so you can eek out the best performance possible until Adobe find the magic bullet. its on my todo list to look at capture one
When we briefly looked at capture one about a year ago (and it was a very quick look so might have missed allot)... we found with the spot removal we could not seem to 'draw' or select a range to perform a spot removal on which is one of the great features we use in lightroom (eg, line or long wrinkle someone wants removed... in Capture One it seemed you could only do a 'round' spot and could not drag/draw with the tool)... I plan to also have another more in-depth look into Capture one as for tethered shooting it's like night and day compared to Lightroom and I wonder if editing will be as well...
