Lightroom 5.6 fails to recognize Tamron SP 24-70f2.8 lens, instead it will choose Sigma 24-70 f2.8 lens profile in lens corrections. This needs to be changed manually each time (that Tamron profile exists within LR). I use 5DMK2 with my Tamron lens

LR 5.7 was released today so you might try it, in case this was fixed, but otherwise, maybe Adobe can do something about this, but in the mean time, you can make LR automatically choose the right one--assuming you only have one of the two lenses, by opening a new raw photo without any adjustments, taken with that lens that is being chosen incorrectly, then in the lens profile area, choose the correct lens profile, then in the Setup under Lens Corrections/Profile, chose Save New Lens Profile Defaults, and then switch Setup to Default, then press the Alt key and click Set Default at the lower right, and save the current settings as the new LR defaults.
The factory default for Lens Correction / Profile / Setup is Auto, which matches lenses based on Adobe algorithms. If you change Setup to Default it'll still match other lenses with Adobe algorithms, but any you've overridden will use your settings, instead.

Hello Risto,
Lens profile auto-matching requires a few bits of information to work correctly. It isn't always present with some third-party lens manufacturers, so LR has to make some conservative guesses. If auto-matching doesn't work correctly by simply checking the "enable" box, then selecting the lens make should give LR enough of a hint to get it right. If the Sigma lens was picked either automatically or via selecting Tamron for the lens make, then that is likely a bug.
If you are able to post a sample raw image to a dropbox link or similar service, I can take a look and determine if there is a bug.
Steve's suggested workaround (thanks, Steve!) should take care of your immediate issue.
Regards,
- Chris

Hi Chris!
Thanks for your prompt response.
LR5.7 picked Sigma instead of Tamron automatically (lens type - 24-70 was correct though) - in the same way as the previous versions of LR SW, I had to manually change the make for each photo earlier. Now with that workaround I get the correct result. However, if there is a bug that should really be corrected.
You should be able to access an example of a raw file with the link below (could you please confirm whether you are able to retrieve the phpto and whether there is a bug in sw.

Hello Risto,
Thanks again for supplying the sample image. I figured out what is happening.
Both the Tamron and Sigma lenses use the same lens ID tag, and both report the lens name as "24-70mm" in the metadata. This essentially makes the lens identical to LR/ACR, so the first one in the indexed list of lenses (the Sigma) is picked. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do to resolve this without the lens manufacturers providing unique metadata. The best solution is to continue using the custom profile settings suggested by Steve.
Hope that helps,
- Chris

I have Tamron 10-24mm, Tamron 17-50mm and Tamron 28-75mm. The wide ones are made in China and Lr does not detect them automatically but 28-75mm is made in Japan and it's being detected... strange. Risto, how about yours?

same problem with tamron 24-70 in lightroom 6.14... i think it has something to do with the body and lens not talking correctly because i get a communication error in the camera every once in a while... and yes the pins are clean and free floating... it's easily dealt with in lightroom by manual over ride. but in DXO i cannot fix the problem...
