Lightroom Classic/Camera Raw: "Edit with..." -"Open"does not work for photos from NAS

Hi there,

because of massive performance problems I decided to perform a "clean install" with my MacPro.

Performance sometimes is better - but sometimes it ́s still crap :(

Now a further problem came to me:
I am not able to edit photos in Photoshop or Nik Collection by "Edit with..." when my photo is located on a Synology NAS.

If it is located locally or on a external ThunderBoldt drive it works as suggested.

When trying to edit a photo that is stored at my Synology NAS in PS e.g. I right-click it, choosing "Edit with..." Photoshop CC2019.
Then PS ist opening - but nothing more happens...
When trying to move that photo with drag/drop in to PS, PS tells me "file not found".

What can I do? It was working as suggested before performing a "clean install"

System:
Mac Pro late 2013
Mojave - latest version, but no public or develop Beta!
Creative Cloud - so most current versions of LR an PS (checking daily for new versions)

Photos are stored:
- locally in Pictures folder - no problem
- on a external thunderboldt drive - no problem
- on my Synology NAS - does NOT work.

My NAS Folder is mounted as Volume like: "apfs://192.168.xxx.xxx/Lightroom"
I am able to access that NAS folder without any problems! I am able to move photos from locally to the NAS in LR, I am able to move photos from the NAS to a local folder using LR to...

Thank you!

Guido,

Can you go to Help>System Info... and get your installed version number for Lightroom and post in in a reply?

Problem occurs with PS Version 20.0.3. Bridge 9.0.2.219 and CR 11.2.0.135. With PS Version 20.0.2 and CR 11.1, everything works as expected.

If you try to open a nikon .nef raw file from a network share (AFP or SMB) on MacOS 10.14.3 with Photoshop you get the error "Could not complete your request because the file was not found."
Hurry up Adobe to fix this problem! It's really ugly! And above all do not propose to return to Camera Raw 10.5. Nobody likes to go back!

I have the same issue with OS X 10.12.6
Photoshop CC 2019 (20.0.3) and Lightroom classic  2019 (20.0.3)

Opening from Lightroom in Photoshop when file is saved on local HDD works. Works also when I open file from memory card (inserted into USB card reader). Works when I choose "Edit in Photoshop CC 2018".
Doesn't work only with Photoshop CC 2019 and NAS.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Cant open nikon .nef raw file from network share.

Problem occurs with Version 20.0.3. With Version 20.0.2 everything works as expected.

If you try to open a nikon .nef raw file from a network share (AFP or SMB) on MacOS 10.14.3 with Photoshop you get the error "Could not complete your request because the file was not found."

Already tried reinstalling the complete suite and tried on fresh installed MacOS and Photoshop on a different device!

Please fix this asap as my clients have a really big problem with this bug!

Kind Regards

Anybody experiencing this, are you able to open the raw files directly into Photoshop/Camera Raw from the NAS/Memory card?

Or is this strictly an edit from Lightroom issue?

Regards,
Pete

It is not strictly an edit from Lightroom issue. I cannot open raw files from Bridge on a network drive either. But if I locate the raw file on the drive in the file explorer and double click it, it opens in Camera Raw, then opens in Photoshop.

I am having the same problem and it is FRICK'N FRUSTRATING!  I can't work!  PS 20.0.3 and Camera Raw 11.2 and LR Classic CC 8.2.  Is there any input from Adobe on a workaround/fix?

I am having the same problem.  Work around:  Go to Photoshop-hit open-go to your storage folder and find pic-right click open with Photoshop.  Sometimes you have to do it twice, and then it will open in camera raw, sideways, but it will open.  Hope this helps until this bug is fixed.  Also, I copied an image and pasted it on my desktop, and right clicked, and it opened in PS.

Of course, you then have to manually sync your Lightroom folder. Apparently, as I just found out, downgrading to the previous version of PS is the answer ...

Happy to back down to the previous version, how do I do that?  The manual workaround isn't workable for the number of photos I'm trying to work with

I've seen a number of posts where Synology NAS boxes are not working right with Mojave. Have you contacted Synology for help?

I'm on 10.12.16 Sierra and not using a Synology NAS. So it's not Mac version or NAS drive related. The problem is with Adobe Camera RAW and Photoshop.

The OP refers to a NAS.

I'm using a NAS as well, just not the brand you mention. My point is that it isn't related to one brand of NAS nor Mojave. Why would you assume either?

It appears to be the way Camera RAW is reading, or attempting to ready the file during the prep phase for editing.  If you try and drag a network file from LR straight to PS you will probably get an error to the effect of "Cannot find file". because the pathing isn't working for some reason for network paths.

Understood what the issue is. I was clarifying for David it isn't drive specific or OS specific. All network files appear to be affected. Apparently Adobe is aware and planning to fix. The only thing I care about now is WHEN.

Thanks for the reports. The Camera Raw team has verified the issue and we have logged it in the system. This thread will be notified when a fix is available.

For workarounds until a fix is implemented, see this doc: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/unable-to-open-raw-files-from-network-storage.html

I'm running on a Windows 2008 file server with Mac clients and I can't get any file to open from LR with LR adjustments into PS ... I'm DEAD IN THE WATER and have DEADLINES I can't meet!!!!  It seems any networked file location ... Looks like I can edit PSD but not CR2.

You should strongly consider going to Windows Server 2016 or Acronis Connect for Mac clients.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled photoshop cannot find file when opening from bridge.

When double-clicking on a file from bridge, photoshop cannot find the file. I reveal in finder and then open from there but not bridge.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Lightroom CC not opening RAW files when selecting edit in Photoshop.

I updated both my Lightroom CC and Photoshop CC over the weekend. I can now only open Jpegs and not Raw files when I use the 'Edit in Photoshop' function. My raw files are NEF (Nikon D5, D800) or DNG files. These are not opening. The Jpegs are opening fine if I have shot on Jpeg.

When I try to open a NEF or DNG file Photoshop launches but no file is transferred or opened in PS.

I am running the below versions of LR/PS

PS CC 20.0.3

LR CC 8.2 11.1

My computer is running MAC Sierra 10.12.6

I really can't believe Adobe manages to introduce new bugs in every other version. Most people here work in production environments that rely on networks.
I hope that a fix will come anytime soon, this is not a minor bug, its a major workflow disruption.

Same problem. Can't open files on a NAS in photoshop from Lightroom. If you drag the image into photoshop you get a file cannot be located error. It's Working form a local drive. If you have identified the issue is there any chance you can let us know what the ETA is?

Most professionals will work from a NAS due to the sheer size of their raw library. This isn't an ideal situation for a lot of your customers /. subscribers.

Yep - same issue. It's ACR 11.2. Cannot open images from NAS (and gives file not found error). Can open from local drive. Don't think it's a problem in LR8.2 or in 11.2 DNG convertor. It's unrelated to PS host version - just ACR11.2 as far as I can tell.

Problem is there for macOS 10.12.6 and also for 10.13.6.

NAS mounted as afp:// (Buffalo, but looks from other's reports like that does not matter).

Have backed down to ACR11.0.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Lightroom 'Edit In' not opening files since February 2019 update.

Since the February 2019 Lightroom Classic CC and Photoshop CC, opening files from Lightroom via 'Edit in Photoshop' only opens Photoshop but does not open the file.
This problem appears to only occur for files with Process Version 3 or earlier. Updating to the current process version makes no difference.
I am working with RAW files converted to DNG.  MacOS Mojave 10.14.3
I am working on a project and really need to get this to work quickly!!

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled 20.0.3 borked my Camera Raw.

A day after updating to Photoshop 20.0.3 (MacPro Mojave), I tried to open a .CR2 file. I got a splash screen saying "Welcome to Camera Raw 2" or something like that. It initially opened the file but when I clicked "open" it stated "Could not complete your request because the file was not found." I restarted the app and the computer and got the same result.
Any attempt after didn't even open the Camera Raw Filter, just showed the error message. I tried to open in PS 18 and 17 and got the same result. CS5.1 still worked. I downloaded Camera Raw 11.2 and installed it, but got the same result. I kinda need Camera Raw to work. Any suggestions?

where did you find Camera Raw 11.1 on the Adobe website? I only find CR 9.1, CR 9.12.1, CR 10.5 and then CR 11.2. 11.1 is no longer there!
Thanks,
Michel

I downgraded to ACR 11.1 and that fixed this problem.  Of course, every time I want to edit a file in PS from LR8.2, I get the error message about needing to update ACR.  And, as a bonus, the Enhance Detail never did work for my RAF files.  Less than a positive experience.

I installed v 11 without having to uninstall anything. It works now, but Adobe CC still thinks I have the latest version. Is that an issue?
