Lightroom Classic: Did the grid view used to be locked in place while scrolling?

Am i imagining things or did the grid view used to be locked in place while scrolling? What i mean is that while scrolling through pages in the grid, the thumbnails used to be locked in position and now when i scroll, the grid scrolls in such a way that thumbnail position drifts during scroll.
In Bridge, there's a grid-lock option which toggles the behavior i'm asking about here.

I don't think they were ever "locked" in that way. I just tried LR 5 / Mac and they're not locked. In a similar (but not identical) vein, others have asked for the thumbnails to be sized to fit the grid view exactly:

Strange. In OSX I could swear that the grid scrolled in a locked position a few months back. Now i'm on a windows machine and that mac is no longer in service.
Thanks for checking, John.

Six months later and this is still driving me nuts. Why is it that i can scroll with arrow keys to keep the grid locked in place, but using the mouse causes the drift to occur?

Why isn't there an option to keep the grid locked while scrolling? Who out there would ever want or need to see only partial images when scrolling through the grid?
