LR Classic CC - Exported JPG & DNG's not cataloged

LR Classic CC v7.1 on Win10, when in Grid View doing Export to JPG or DNG (maybe others, too, that I have not tried and can't comment on) does not catalog the image files.  'Add to This Catalog' box is checked.  It is somewhat inconsistent, nearly (but not) always not cataloging the exported files.  It always correctly exports them to the PC hard drive, as shown in Explorer.
    >>  An apparently related issue is that when the exported images are NOT cataloged, they can not be subsequently brought back and cataloged using 'Library>Synchronize Folder'>Import New Photos' option because the 'Synchronize Folder' feature becomes greyed out and unable to be activated whenever this occurs.  Instead, I have to completely exit LR and restart it.  'Library>Synchronize>Import New Photos' then correctly operates to import and catalog them.
    >> This issue only began with the December, 2017 (v7.1) release.  It did not occur with the October (7.0) version.  Version 7.0 had another possibly related issue, with exported images being listed in duplicate on the catalog (but were not actually duplicated on the destination drive.)  It occurs to me that the fix to the (v7.0) catalog duplication issue might have resulted in creating a new not-cataloging export problem in v7.1?

"might have resulted in" ... are you implying that Adobe may not have properly tested their fix? Maybe Adobe should send their LR team on a training course for quality control.

Whenever you run an export and you don't subsequently see the exports added back into the catalog, what happens in the Catalog panel below the Navigator? If the "export with add to catalog" has worked, there should be an entry in the Catalog panel saying "Added by Previous Export", with a total count equal to the number of files you've just exported. Do you see this happen, or not?

Jim makes a good point but when this "seems" to happen is when you are either in a collection or you have a filter set or you just imported the image you are exporting and by default "Previously Imported" is selected in the Catalog section.
I've had that happen many times when I import a group of images, edit one or 2 then want to export them as JPGs. They never show next to the images I just exported. Once I select the actual folder the original was in right next to it is the ones I just exported.

To further clarify the conditions explained my original post on this problem, I am working with no Library Filters on, nor from a Collection when this problem occurs.  The Library>Grid view images presented for me to work on by selecting a folder from the 'Folders' drop down on the left side of the LR work area.  The folder contains images imported approximately a year ago.  Also, the 'Add to Stack (Above Original)' box is virtually always checked, too, when I 'Export'.
The workflow I'm using is precisely the same as I"ve been using for several years now, without issue.  Only the software (v7.1) and this non-cataloging problem are new factors. This problem only began after updating to LR CC v7.1 from v7.0 recently.

Jim - I just did a quick Export test in LR to see whether 'Added by Previous Export' count was incremented.  Well, it was.  But both times I tried it the images were also successfully added to the Catalog and displayed as such in Library>Grid view.  So it is working correctly... at least for now.  Go figure?   So, I' will continue paying very close attention to this in my upcoming sessions with LR (probably will be a few days before I have the time) and will update this post with my findings.
