Lightroom Classic 9.0 / 9.1: Mac + Epson SC-P800 creating mangled prints

LR 9.0/9.1 Classic for Mac + Epson SC-P800 together creating mangled prints.

I've an older Mac running 10.13.6, software is up to date and so are the Epson drivers.

Photoshop 19.0.1 prints a psd file and same rendered as a jpeg perfectly but LR 9.0 classic and 9.1 classic frankly just create prints that are a layered mess = the output is roughly the right size but completely rasterized and mangled - kind of as though one were viewing the image through a broken CRT with a messed up clock/scan rate.

I haven't attempted a print in quite a while though I can say with confidence that LR 8 classic, when it was installed, did work fine.

Since photoshop 19.0.1 seems unaffected - prints work perfectly, it seems like a LR 9+ bug.

  • sad - I've burned through a fair bit of paper and ink trying to workaround this.

I will be interested to hear how you resolve this.

I am running Mac 10.14.6 with LR Classic 9.1 and have no such issues printing to my P800 so I'm fairly sure the issue is not with LR9.1 as such.

I assume that you have attempted to print the same .psd file through both PS and LRClassic to conclude it is the LR print path that's at fault?

Have you tried uninstalling LR Classic and reinstalling just in case some preference file has been mangled?

In cases where your issue doesn't seem to be consistent with other users' experience, Rikk Flohr often suggests
"..A Preference File will survive a Lightroom uninstall/reinstall. Sometimes weird behavior is corrected/cured by resetting the preferences.

Reset Procedure:

1. Close Lightroom.
2. Hold down [Alt/Opt]+[Shift] while restarting Lightroom.
3. Overwrite the Preferences when prompted by the dialog.
4. Close Lightroom.
5. Restart Lightroom.

Does the behavior continue after resetting the preferences?"

Can't hurt.
