Lightroom Classic 7.2: Can't back up after being loaded over night

After leaving LR Classic over night I find all available memory has been used on my iMac 27 w 32gig.  Slows way down.  Try to quit with backup and just sits there with no progress.  Back up acts normally if LR is just opened and not left up overnight.  Found similar problem day before.  Metadata would not show up for images in Library mode.  Had to force quit LR.  All very disturbing.  First functional problem I have ever had in LR, EVER.

Was it trying to do anything when you left it, like sync?

I don’t think so, though I can’t swear to that. There was no progress bar of anything going on at the time. I have not had any problems with sync to LR on my iPad... seems to work OK. I only have a handful of collections synced to the iPad, and I do not not have LR CC talking to Classic at all. I am not the least bit interested in LR CC except as a way to show some of my images via th iPad.

I just started LR when I saw your response and when I checked syncing was paused. However I did note that face detection, which I turned on after the recent upgrade, was scanning files. It is, (or appears to be), done doing that as I watched a count down of 500+ images go to zero. I have 65k images in my catalog. Could that have been the culprit? I would have thought LR would simply suspend that until the next session.

I have had to force quit LR twice and it freaked me out a bit. The catalogue has not appeared to suffer, thank god, and a restart makes everything like “new”. Still, un-nerving.

Follow up....  after LR being up all day I decided to close down and see if the back up would work.  Same as before , it seemed stalled. I canceled out of the quit and immediately checked to see if LR was syncing.  And it was.  Not sure why as I had not added any photos to synced collections.  I paused the syncing, then attempted to close down with back up.  The backup and shut down process proceeded normally.  I guess this is some sort of bug.... I presume Adobe has already heard about this issue?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Paul,

When you force quit Lr and reopened LR, was syncing on/off ?
It might be the case, that it might be trying to sync an image that was not synced already, or uploading some metadata.
What were you seeing in the sync activity tab (Preferences -> Lightroom Sync) ?

Thanks,
Arjun
