Lightroom Desktop: Stuck on “Importing...” for Two Hours - 80,000 Files

If I’m importing 80,000 photos and videos to LR CC at once, and the status has been “Importing...” for over two hours, is that expected behavior? I assume it’s in the process of checking against the existing library for duplicates as well as checking against all the files in the batch I’m attempting to import.

I created the biggest mess in a similar way. All my 40.000 photos are on Photoshop and I try to bring them into LR and onto the cloud. The few times a worked with LR in the past, I messed up my own filing system and database completely. LR seems to expect users to follow a process that starts with LR. Since I never did that in 20 years, there are few instructions for me in 'Help'!

As Lightroom stores originals in the cloud (and so it has to check against originals in the cloud too), importing 80,000 photos and videos will indeed take a lot of time. I never tried importing that many photos, but I can't say it surprises me.

It's not only checking everything, but copying them all to its own storage space ready for upload to the cloud. You might want to do smaller chunks.
