Lightroom CC HDR requires that I convert to DNG first?

why doesn't LR CC HDR feature work with RAW files - i have been advised to convert RAW to DNG first which doesn't make sense. i'm using CANON DSLR

Is your camera officially supported by the version of Lr/ACR that you have? See https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html. If your camera is officially supported by the version of the Lr/ACR that you have, you don't need to rely on the DNG Converter to convert to DNG first https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/why-is-my-camera-not-supported.html. Otherwise, use the DNG converter to convert your raw files to DNG as a workaround.

yes, mine (7d) is supported so DNG shouldn't be necessary
