LR CC 2015.7: Annoying behaviour of catalog setting "automatically write changes into XMP"

I recently updated Lightroom from VS 4 to CC 2015.7 on WIN 7. With the new version of LR I also activated the catalog settings "include develop settings in metadata inside jpeg..." and "automatically write changes into XMP". Lighroom then updated the metadata of ALL my pictures (~ 200 GB) which is very annoying because my backup software (robocopy and maxtor disc) has to backup all pictures again.
I havent changed the pictures, I compared the metadata before and after, the only difference is the XMP Toolkit Version:

XMP Toolkit
XMP toolkit 2.8.2-33, framework 1.5

XMP Toolkit
Adobe XMP Core 5.6-c011 79.156380, 2014/05/21-23:38:37
Creator Tool
Adobe Photoshop 7.0

Seems that lightroom automatically updates all pictures metadata if the XMP Version is not up to date. I may be wrong, but would'nt it be safer and more convenient for users to only update the file's metadata if something "essential" has been changed?

Thanks for your help.
