Reboot, run Onyx to delete the Photoshop application state and rebuild Launch Services.

Hi Phillis,

Earlier when I said, we were able to reproduce this, I actually confused this with another issue we are facing. Sorry for the confusion.

We have tried couple of time and we have not been able to reproduce this issue when PS is already running.

What OS are you on? Also are you facing this issue with all file formats or some particular ones?

Thanks

Windows 10, latest build.  no, just opening a raw file from lightroom using Edit in and choosing open as smart object.  It is supposed to open up the raw editor in PS and link the file back to LR.  I have tried it with Photoshop open already and photoshop not opened.  It must be my PC though as I tried it on my desktop and it works as it should...I just need to find out what is different as they were both upgraded to the latest Win 10 (which I think has issues from what I have heard) and the latest revisions of both Lightroom and PS CC 2015.5...Other than that it appears to work otherwise. The only thing I have not tried on my laptop is to open up the raw editor on the file within PS..Thanks for looking into this...if you happen to think of what I might look for please let me know.

As I understand, and use LR & PS-

Opening an image as a Smart Object in PS (from LR) does not link that Photoshop document back to the Lightroom preview of the original raw. When you 'Save' the PS document it will be shown back in the LR library, but developing the original raw image in LR will not change the PS version of the file. To re-edit the Smart Object layer in PS you double-click on the layer thumbnail and ACR opens the embedded raw image.  So a Smart Object file opened from LR is really just a TIFF or PSD file with an embedded raw layer.

OTOH- It is possible to link a "Smart Object Layer" back to LR by a method of "Placing" the raw original into a blank Photoshop document layer that is the same pixel dimensions as the original raw. For this to work you must write edits to the original xmp file in LR by Ctrl+S (Save to metadata). If you then do more develop work on the original raw in LR, Ctr+S the metadata, then these edits will update the PS file smart layer.
